At Scholars Education Centre, learning isn’t one-size-fits-all. For the past two years, the centre has provided tailored academic support to more than 250 students in the community, offering help that ranges from early literacy to high school sciences and math.

As downtown Steinbach gears up for this year’s Summer in the City festival this weekend, the spotlight is firmly on community, music, and shared experiences.

From June 13 to 15, Main Street will be alive with sounds, sights, and flavours that draw thousands annually. Behind the scenes, organizers and performers alike are eagerly preparing for a weekend that promises energy, emotion, and entertainment.

An unexpected start turns into a joyful business

Audrianna Argent never planned to run a yoga business, let alone one involving goats in diapers and pink dresses. But Dynamic Goat Yoga, her playful and increasingly popular venture, grew out of a serendipitous moment on her farm.

"I was selling a pair of shoes, and when the buyer came by, the goats ran up to greet her," Argent recalls. "She said, 'You should do goat yoga!' and a light bulb went on."

A tradition since 1884

For over 140 years, the Moose Jaw Fair has been a cornerstone of the city’s summer calendar. From humble beginnings – featuring dill pickle contests and livestock races up Main Street – the fair has evolved into a vibrant, family-friendly event that continues to honour its roots while embracing new energy and attractions.

As planting season begins, Steinbach residents are once again invited to take part in one of the city’s most grassroots community efforts – quite literally. The city’s compost depots officially opened on May 3rd, and they’re now running every Saturday until October.

The depots are open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at three locations: Woodlawn School, Stonybrook Middle School, and the parking lot of Smith Neufeld Jodoin Law Office.

A growing global crisis 

The online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC) is an alarming crime that sees adults in one country paying adults in another to livestream the abuse of children. Lorianne Dueck Rebello, Advocacy and Public Engagement Lead at International Justice Mission Canada (IJM), says it’s a crime that tragically implicates Canadians. Chef JP Charpentier is bringing a French twist to the heart of Steinbach as he prepares to open the much-anticipated Forum & Bistro at the Southeast Event Centre. Set to open on June 12, the restaurant promises to delight guests with authentic French bistro fare while supporting the community.
