Canada’s inflation rate down a tick to 1.9% in November

Inflation edged down slightly to 1.9 per cent in November as price growth continued to stabilize in Canada.

Statistics Canada’s consumer price index report Tuesday showed inflation was down from two per cent in October.

Shelter costs increased at a slower annual pace of 4.6 per cent, while rent price inflation accelerated to 7.7 per cent.

Grocery prices continued to grow faster than overall prices, rising 2.6 per cent from a year ago.

Canadian icon Terry Fox to be featured on new $5 bill

Terry Fox has been selected to appear on the next $5 bank note.

The federal government made the revelation in its fall economic statement on Monday.

Fox is a Canadian icon who campaigned for cancer research by running his Marathon of Hope in 1980.

An amputee himself after losing his leg to cancer, Fox's marathon raised more than $24 million dollars — $1 for every Canadian at the time.

He was the youngest person to be named a Companion of the Order of Canada before his death in 1981 when his cancer spread to his lungs.

After 600 shows together, TobyMac bids Terrian farewell

After almost a decade of touring together, TobyMac is saying his final farewell to Diverse City's Terrian as she continues her career as a solo artist. 

At the end of November Terrian announced that she would be leaving Diverse City, the backup dancers and singers that have travelled and toured with TobyMac for a long time. 

Suspect in Wisconsin Christian School shooting identified as female teenager

The Madison Police Department (MDP) has released more details about a shooting that took place at a Christian school Monday morning, including the identity of the suspect. 

At 10:57 a.m. the police in Madison, Wisconsin received a call about an active shooting at Abundant Life Christian School, a 28-acre facility that includes a daycare center as well as Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Marching orders, part two

1 Peter 5:5-7

We face a very real, insidious enemy. And, as I mentioned yesterday, in order to step intelligently and wisely into the battle with Satan and his demons, we need clear marching orders. God has given them to us in the pages of Scripture.

The words of Peter come to mind. In the fifth chapter of his first letter we find words that sound like marching orders for Christian soldiers. But the initial command is surprising.

3 dead, others injured at Wisconsin Christian school shooting

Three people are dead and nine others injured after a shooting Monday at a private Christian school in Wisconsin, including a child who had unleashed the attack, authorities said.

Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes offered no details on the victims following the 10:57 a.m. shooting at Abundant Life Christian School, a 28-acre facility that includes a daycare center as well as Kindergarten through 12th grade, in Madison.

"Every child, every person in that building is a victim and will be a victim forever," Barnes said.
