In a day when most people pass the buck with merely a shrug, those words bite and sting. It's one thing to sing and dance to liberty's tunes, but it's something else entirely to bear the responsibility for paying the band.

Canadian Grain Commission dipping into surplus to keep fees steady

The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is going to be reaching into its surplus for the first time in a while in order to cover its cost.

That comes as grain volumes are falling for Canada, and the commission needs more funds to keep up with their costs.

That's why they're dipping into their surplus, with Head Commissioner David Hunt explaining that came from their most recent financial review.

Peace Regional RCMP seek public assistance to identify suspect in theft of motor vehicle

On Oct. 16, 2024, Peace Regional RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle that had been stolen while at a business near 100 Street in Peace River.

Peace Regional RCMP are seeking public assistance in identifying the suspect and locating the stolen vehicle.

Grande Prairie launches new bursary program at anti-poverty event

On October 17, the City of Grande Prairie, in partnership with local organizations and educational institutions, hosted Opportunities for All: Tackling Poverty Together event in recognition of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. The event highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing social challenges and emphasized the strength of community collaboration.

Hythe water service disruption

The County of Grande Prairie would like to inform residents of Hythe that a valve replacement project is currently in progress. The work is initially being carried out in the area South of 106 Street, along 104 and 101 Avenue, and north of 105 Street.

As part of this project, the first planned water outage will take place on revised date of Tuesday, October 17th, and is expected to last approximately six hours. Further updates, including the exact timing of the outage, will be provided as soon as they become available.

Bear sighting in Sprucewood Park subdivision

The County of Grande Prairie received a report yesterday afternoon of a bear sighting in the Sprucewood Park subdivision, which is located south of the City of Grande Prairie along Highway 40.

They are asking the public to take the following precautions:

  • Be cautious and stay alert and watch for signs of animal activity.  
  • Do not approach the bear
  • Keep children and pets close.

Fatal collision in Fairview under investigation

On Oct. 16, 2024, at 12:40 p.m., Fairview RCMP assisted by the K Division collision reconstructionist team, responded to a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 732 and Township Road 830 in Fairview.

Upon arrival officers began an investigation into the collision which involved a full-size pick-up truck and a small sedan.

The driver of the sedan, an 82-year-old female resident of Fairview, was declared deceased at the scene.

The 23-year-old male driver of the truck was not injured.  Alcohol and drugs were not a contributing factor.

 AI can be a touchy subject, especially when it comes to its place in the church.

Jason Moore author of AI and the Church: A Clear Guide for the Curious and Courageous says AI is neither inherently good nor inherently evil. He says it is a neutral tool capable of achieving remarkable feats when used wisely.

Moore has hands-on experience in the local church, giving him a deep understanding of the concerns ministry leaders and congregants have when introducing new technology such as AI.
