Some Conservative MPs voice support for Poilievre as party stays silent on next moves
Some Conservative MPs are expressing support for party leader Pierre Poilievre after he lost both the federal election and his own seat on Monday.
In his concession speech early Tuesday morning, Poilievre indicated he would stay on as leader. The Conservative party did not respond when asked Wednesday whether he has officially decided to stay.
"My view is he's not going anywhere," said Kory Teneycke, Ontario Premier Doug Ford's former campaign manager and a former director of communications for former prime minister Stephen Harper.
Dig Safe Awareness Tour rolls into Rosetown to promote underground safety
Industry professionals, town representatives, and municipal employees gathered Wednesday morning at the Rosetown Elk’s Hall as the Saskatchewan Common Ground Alliance (SCGA) hosted its latest stop on the 2025 Dig Safe Awareness Breakfast Tour.
The annual event, held in conjunction with April’s designation as Dig Safe Month in Saskatchewan, drew participants from across west central Saskatchewan — including representatives from private industry, as well as staff from the Town of Rosetown and the Town of Biggar.
May 1 marks first annual North American Badger Day
Conservationists and nature groups across the Prairies are marking the first-ever North American Badger Day on May 1, shining a spotlight on the American Badger (Taxidea taxus), a little-known but ecologically important resident of Canada’s grasslands.
The day is intended to raise awareness of the badger’s role in prairie ecosystems and the threats it faces across its range. Populations of the American Badger — a species at risk in Saskatchewan — are in decline due to habitat loss, road mortality and human-wildlife conflict.
Macklin RCMP respond to family dispute, lay multiple charges following search warrant execution
RCMP in Macklin responded to a variety of calls between April 22 and April 28, including criminal investigations, a family dispute, and one traffic-related complaint.
Officers acted as mediators in a family-related matter early in the week. Later, a significant enforcement action led to charges against three individuals after police executed a search warrant at a residence.
Longest Ballot group declares victory in Poilievre's former riding amid criticism
A group trying to make a case for electoral reform by creating very long ballots is declaring victory in this week's election — even as critics accuse it of indulging in stunts that undermine democracy.
"It's been a success," said Mark Moutter, one of dozens of protest candidates who ran in the Ottawa riding of Carleton.
"I've never seen people looking more optimistically at electoral reform, ever."
Manitoba Agriculture issues first crop report of the season
Manitoba Agriculture has released its first crop report of the season, providing valuable insights into the current state of seeding and livestock activities across the province.
Oilseed Specialist Sonya Wilson says seeding is just getting underway, with provincial seeding progress at approximately three per cent. This is ahead of the five-year average of one per cent. Farmers are currently planting spring wheat, peas, and a small amount of oats, particularly in areas west of Brandon and near Rapid City, with some activity in other regions as well.
Unusual activity flagged by Biggar RCMP in final report of April
The Biggar RCMP released their final report of the month back on Monday, covering the period between April 22 to its release on April 28.
Officers noted a "lower key" week in terms of traffic enforcement, a positive sign, though RCMP Traffic Services stop a fair share of speeders while setup in the detachment area, contributing to some 30 occurrences for the detachment this week.

Disturbance, assaults and missing person among Wilkie RCMP Files
RCMP in Wilkie responded to a range of calls between April 22 and April 28, including disturbances, assault complaints, and a Mental Health Act case.
Police received a complaint of disturbing the peace, which remains under investigation. Officers also responded to a report of a missing person, who was later safely located.
Two assault complaints were reported during the week. One remains under investigation, while officers determined there was insufficient evidence to proceed in the second case.
KCS students shine at first-ever Sun West Creator Olympics
Eleven students from seven Sun West schools came together on March 19 for the first-ever Creator Olympics, a daylong event in Rosetown focused on digital storytelling and filmmaking.
The event, open to students in Grades 9 to 12, gave participants a chance to learn about filmmaking, develop new technical skills, and connect with peers from across the school division.
