U.S. bill would get canola back into biofuel game
Canola oil would be one of the main beneficiaries of proposed changes to the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit making their way through U.S. Congress, says an analyst.
The feedstock is not eligible for the credit under the current rules because of its unfavourable carbon intensity (CI) score.
However, under new rules contained in the budget bill that recently passed through the U.S. House of Representatives, canola’s carbon intensity score drops to 38.5 grams of carbon dioxide per megajoule from 54.9.
Heidt wins Curling Central award for Men's Most Improved Player of the Year
A local curler was recently recognized amidst a group of international talent.
Kerrobert's Josh Heidt won the Curling Central 2024-25 season award for Men's Most Improved Player of the Year. It's in the Developmental Awards category, and Heidt beat out fellow nominees Dallas Burgess of Manitoba, Philipp Hösli of Switzerland, Lukáš Klípa of Czechia, and Marc Muskatewitz of Germany.
Excessive speed through Biggar leads to impoundment, fines
A driver with a heavy foot paid a heavy price for speeding through Biggar looking at the latest local RCMP report.
Police managed to stop a vehicle moving through town at excessive speeds, piloted by a 36-year-old male from Martensville who was caught going 151 km/h. Not only was the vehicle well above the speed limit, but the infraction also took place in a speed reduction zone.
Clearwater Drive-In ready for another year on the big screen
The Clearwater Drive-In Theatre is officially open for the season, with some larger-than-life films lined up.
Last weekend, they started the year with A Minecraft Movie, which has been dominating the box office. This weekend, they are playing The Wild Robot for audiences up at the lake, and anyone who makes the drive.
Denise Kelk, owner of the Clearwater Drive-In Theatre, will keep the film rolling with major releases this summer like the live-action Lilo and Stich, Elio, and Jurassic World Rebirth.
Rush unable to bring NLL title back to Saskatchewan
The Saskatchewan Rush were unable to disrupt a dynasty on Saturday, losing 15-6 to the Buffalo Bandits in Game 3 of the NLL Finals as the hometown Bandits won their third straight title in front of a raucous crowd of over 19,000.
The game got off to a fast start as an exciting first quarter finished 3-3. Buffalo gained momentum from there to build a lead in the second quarter, but Saskatchewan battled back to make it 7-6 Bandits at the half.
Suspect arrested after Kindersley-Oyen police chase remains in custody
KINDERSLEY, Sask. — A man who led RCMP on a high-speed chase from Kindersley, Sask., into Alberta last month remains behind bars following a dramatic two-day manhunt near the border.
Jeffrey Thomas McLean, 41, of Regina, is facing a string of charges after Kindersley RCMP alerted their counterparts in Oyen, Alta., about a stolen Ford F-350 that fled westbound out of Saskatchewan on April 20.
Quebec MP Francis Scarpaleggia elected as new House of Commons Speaker
Quebec Liberal MP Francis Scarpaleggia was elected Speaker of the House of Commons on Monday — after an unusually dramatic race that saw the only Conservative contenders drop out of the running at the last minute.
Conservative MPs Chris d'Entremont and John Nater both put their names forward but withdrew on the House floor before the election began Monday morning.
The Liberals currently have 169 seats in the minority Parliament, leaving them three seats shy of the 172 required for a majority.
NDP will not be granted official party status: government House leader
Government House leader Steven MacKinnon says the NDP will not be granted official party status because the law says a party needs at least 12 seats to be recognized.
The NDP was reduced to just seven seats in last month's election.
Interim NDP Leader Don Davies has told The Canadian Press he spoke with the Prime Minister's Office about obtaining official party status for the NDP in the House of Commons.
Davies pointed to several past instances of provincial legislatures granting party status to an opposition party.
Warm week ahead in West Central
What a difference a week can make — after a wet and rainy start to the work week seven days ago, the weather is setting up to be of the opposite variety around west-central Saskatchewan today and throughout the week.

The week is starting off with highs in the mid-20s but should approach the 30-degree mark by mid-week with highs of 31 on Thursday and Saturday being the warmest days.
