Another severe system coming to strike the southeast this evening
The southeast will need to once again batten down the hatches as we're seeing a potentially severe thunderstorm come through the area this evening. Environment Canada's forecast expects that to hit tonight with severe weather stretching through central Saskatchewan into the southeast.
Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Crawford Luke guides us through what we could see from this system.
Seal coating work to affect Highway 39 commuters
Some ongoing construction on Highway 39 may affect commuters near Macoun, between Weyburn and Estevan.
Dan Palmer with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways explains seal coating work is being done to improve the quality of the road.
“That's when hot liquid asphalt and crushed gravel are applied to the highway surface. Now, the benefit of that once it's completed is it reduces deterioration, cracking and essentially it prolongs the service life of the existing pavement which ultimately is a smoother and safer driving surface for motorists.”
Steady May inflation figures don't make the case for rate cuts: economists
May inflation figures showed marginal improvements in some of the Bank of Canada's closely watched price figures — a step in the right direction, some economists say, but likely not enough to convince the central bank to cut interest rates.
The annual pace of inflation held steady at 1.7 per cent last month as cooling shelter costs helped tame price pressures, Statistics Canada said Tuesday.

Tornado damage may need a close eye for farmers fields in the southeast
Tornadoes ripped through the southeast last week, with stormchasers following a few touchdowns in farmers' fields in the area. Those fields saw emergence a while ago and are now in the growing stage, meaning these plants are vulnerable to the heavy winds, hail, and more that come from a tornado.
Local Agrologist Edgar Hammermeister says that, as far as he's heard, damage to any farmyard thanks to the tornadoes has been limited.

The next day, on June 17, a crew was dispatched to and assisted with a call for EMS assistance.
