Speeding comes at a price, as an Estevan motorist learned the hard way when she was caught driving over double the speed limit, resulting in an $809 ticket.

The driver was stopped by Estevan Police Service on Tuesday night driving 101 km/h in a 50 km/h zone down Kensington Ave. In addition to the ticket she was issued a seven-day driving suspension, and her vehicle was impounded.

“Even if it was the middle of the night, 101 in a 50 zone, that’s excessive, that’s concerning,” said EPS Sergeant Tyler McMillen.

The final Golden West Taste of Summer Charity BBQ of the season wrapped up today, with money being raised for Estevan Minor Football (EMF) outside of Canuckade Rentals.

The last event of 2024 had the usual hotdogs, cookies, and water, but was also joined by two bouncy castles and an ice cream truck with a total of $862 raised by the BBQ.

Fresh off the success of the long weekend, Midale's mayor reflects on the changes the town has experienced with new businesses, a new library location, and a much-anticipated daycare.

Mayor Allan Hauglum credits this surge of activity to the town’s younger generation. “It’s always nice to have growth in your community; that’s how your community survives,” he said.

The Canadian government has updated its travel advisory for the United Kingdom amid a rash of ongoing demonstrations. 

It says visitors should "exercise a high degree of caution" in the country and takes note of demonstrations and violent clashes between protesters and police over the past week. 

The travel advice cautions that even peaceful demonstrations can turn violent at any time and can deteriorate quickly.

North America is currently in a transitory period in terms of weather systems, with the timing of that transition likely to affect conditions for crops around the prairies.

That'll eventually change into a LaNinna system, which for our southern neighbours means that frosts could creep in early and disrupt harvest.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Natalie Hasell says that people in the Canadian prairies don't need to worry as much.

It is with great sadness that we tell you Joanne Weisgerber (nee Ganje) passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, August 1, 2024, in Kelowna, BC, surrounded by her family and her beloved dog, Ellie.

The southeast was shaken up by a severe thunderstorm that crawled through the area yesterday afternoon and evening, bringing a bit of dangerous weather to the area.

The first alert went out at around noon yesterday, with the storm itself hitting areas over the next several hours.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Natalie Hasell says that precipitation was limited as those storms were traveling fast along the prairies.

For the last four weeks, we've been selling hot dogs, cookies, and drinks to help deserving charities from southeast Saskatchewan. Today marks the last stop for the Taste of Summer Charity BBQ series. 

Midale buzzed with excitement this long weekend as the town enjoyed the Midale Rodeo and the 58th Annual Threshing Bee, drawing crowds for a mix of thrilling events and heritage celebrations.

“We had a great turnout and just couldn’t be happier with how things went, and the support that we had was amazing,” said Adam Carlson, president of the Midale Rodeo Committee.
