Alberta invests $9.3 million in the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Diagnostic Services Unit

Alberta's livestock producers will benefit from increased funding for the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Diagnostic Services Unit.

Agriculture and Irrigation Minister RJ Sigurdson says the government is investing $9.5 million over three years, with $3.5 million being allotted each year. The funding is earmarked for the continued development of a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory in Calgary.

He says the province has been supporting this project since 2020 and has been closely monitoring its impact as it continues to grow.

Aurora family reunification centre in Estevan to focus on life skills, counselling post-recovery

An Aurora family reunification centre is preparing to open in Estevan to support individuals who have completed addiction recovery and are preparing to reunite with their children and return to everyday life.

“It’s not a recovery centre in Estevan, it’s family reunification. The recovery centre is in Gimli,” said Aurora CEO Michael Bruneau. “That’s where we have our medical detox, or primary recovery.”

Once individuals are stabilized, they are moved to another community to focus on life skills.

McGillivray in the morning moments

Every once in a while, things just go your way. I was out on an evening Moose Cruise last night and found 7. I cruised up on two about 7:20, but they were on the wrong side of the road. My concern was, they were very close to the road, and they might flee.

I never even slowed down; I just kept going past them and took my chance. About a quarter of a mile down the road I turned around and slowly came back.

Councilor hoping for report to see where Estevan's recycling can be improved

A city councillor is hoping to hear more about how GFL services the city, as Brian Johnson made a comment about getting a report on some of their activities to better understand the service. Johnson made that comment while the city was looking over GFL's cart report for April 2025.

He says the report would help clarify how the recycling service functions in the Estevan area.

Seed N Feed lunches keep farmers energized through soggy spring

Eagles Farms received a tasty lunch courtesy of Southern Plains Co-op, delivered straight to the field as part of Seed N Feed.

“We’re about two-thirds done, probably before the rain,” said Terry Eagles. “We’ve got, I don’t know, probably 2,000 acres left. So yeah, we should be done here by the end of the week if we can get going.”

Heavy rain slowed progress. “We probably lost a few acres... everything was just so saturated. We got close to five inches around here,” he said.
