Estevan Bruins first preseason game a miss with loss to Capitals

The Estevan Bruins weren't able to come out with a win in their first preseason game of the year, falling 5-2.

Their opponents, the Virden Oil Capitals, came out strong with three uncontested goals in the first period, all before the 10-minute mark.

After another goal by the Capitals in the second, the Bruins finally managed to knock one in the net for their first goal of the night.

The Capitals ended the period ona sour note for the Bruins after scoring another goal and setting the score to 5-1.

Estevan Wildlife Federation gearing up for hunting season

The seasons are changing and soon hunters will be out in the fields of Saskatchewan on the hunt for deer, elk, and more.

Outdoors associations are also getting ready, giving guidance to hunters and setting them up for a successful season.

Allergies typically arise around the same time each year due to exposure to pollen from trees, grasses, or weeds. “So, this pollen exposure can trigger various allergic reactions, including symptoms of hay fever,” said Enebeli.

ECS Elecs host Greenall Griffins in highly anticipated home opener

The Elecs are set to kick off their season with a home opener on Saturday against the Greenall Griffins.

The team has been preparing diligently during the preseason. Last Friday, the Elecs travelled to Regina to face Regina O’Neil. Head coach Chris Bayerle praised the strong relationship between the teams post-COVID, which has facilitated valuable exhibition games.

“We had a great go with them, first quarter scrimmage, and then the remainder of the game was full exhibition game time, and we walked away with a great preseason win,” Bayerle said.

Carlyle RCMP arrest driver following high-speed chase through Kenosee Lake

Carlyle RCMP officers caught a driver who was speeding on highways around the area, which ended in a dramatic stop.

On August 31 at around 9:20 p.m. they received a report of an erratic driver who had left the Kenosee Lake area and was barreling straight toward Carlyle.

Officers were on the scene and located the suspect traveling northbound on Highway 9 towards Kenosee Lake at an extremely high speed.

NDP pulling out of supply and confidence deal with Liberals

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has ripped up the supply and confidence deal with the Liberals that helped keep the minority government in power. 

In a social media video posted Wednesday afternoon, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said he notified Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of the decision. 

"Canadians are fighting a battle.  A battle for the future of the middle class.  Justin Trudeau has proven again and again he will always cave to corporate greed," Singh said in the video directly addressing Canadians. 

SaskPower establishes SaskNuclear for development of small modular reactors

SaskPower has announced they are creating a new subsidiary in SaskNuclear to manage their work on producing small modular reactors (SMR).

Their work is seeing one SMR built in the Estevan area, with more possibly to come following that unit's construction after 2030.

The new subsidiary will be focused on the regulatory and business processes involved in nuclear development.
