Canada’s Code of Practice for Care and Handling of Pigs is up for review, a process expected to be compete by 2028

Canada’s national pig code is getting an update.

‘We’ve launched the code of practice with the National Farm Animal Care Council,” said Stephen Heckbert, executive director of the Canadian Pork Council.

The Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Pigs will be guided by the development process set out by the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC), the spearheading body for Canada’s various livestock codes.

The Village of Torquay is gearing up for a once-in-a-century celebration. From June 27 to 29, the community will mark its 100th anniversary with a weekend packed full of food, music, history, and family-friendly events. Sometimes all it takes to keep a community clean is a little competition. Thats how the communities of Midale, Lampman, and Bienfait are organizing their spring cleaning, with the second annual MLB Cleanup Competition. 

According to Theresa Biller, the administrator for the Town of Lampman, it was the community of Lampman who first suggested the competition; however, the idea originally belonged to three other communities in the area. 

The downtown construction site saw a recent collision as a truck went through the site's fencing yesterday.

In a Facebook post sent out at around 6 p.m., pictures of the crash were posted, along with a brief description of a 2010-ish "white Dodge half tonne with a black RAM decal on the rear panels and a smashed up driver side front end".

The 2024-25 school year is winding down across the southeast as graduations are taking place and summer vacations are starting up. For the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division (HFRCSSD), their final day of classes is June 26th, with a couple more weeks left to go for students.

An organization that monitors the effect of information flows on human rights says the new federal border security bill appears to "roll out a welcome mat" for expanded data-sharing agreements with the United States and other countries.

Researchers with The Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto say they want the federal government to reveal more about the information-sharing implications of the bill due to a possible risk to human rights.

The countdown to a U.S.-Canada trade deal is on

Prime Minister Mark Carney's office says U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to have a deal on a new economic and security relationship between Canada and the U.S. by mid-July.

The Carlyle RCMP is hoping for some help in a case of ongoing oilfield thefts in the area near Redvers and Manor. Over the past four weeks, the RCMP says that thefts have targeted oilfield worksites in that area of the southeast.

Thefts have included a wide range of equipment and property, with the thefts oftentimes negatively affecting operations.
