Canada's sport system 'broken' and in need of change: report

A new national report on how abuse and maltreatment are handled in sport says "Canadian sport has lost its way" and the federal government must act to better protect athletes across the country. 

The Future of Sport in Canada Commission released its preliminary report Thursday, saying it heard that there are "deeply ingrained" issues across the country, from a culture of silence that has led to abuse and maltreatment to underfunding and a lack of diversity.

WINNIPEG – Auditor General Tyson Shtykalo today released a report that examines allegations of wrongdoing involving several Manitoba municipalities as well as the provincial government's oversight of municipal operations.

Saskatchewan offers Crown Grazing Lease Rental Reduction Program

The province is once again giving livestock producers on crown land the opportunity to apply for the Crown Grazing Lease Rental Reduction Program.

Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison says, given the dry conditions throughout most of the grazing season, they are once again offering the program for producers.

"Crown grazing land lessees who have reduced the number of animals grazing on the land are eligible to apply (by the October 31st deadline) for a rent reduction for the 2025 grazing season.To be eligible, the lessee must reduce their stocking rate by 20 per cent."

LeBlanc leaves Washington with a sense that progress has been made

Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc said he left Washington Wednesday with a sense that progress was made after a meeting with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

"It was constructive in the sense it was an exchange of views that I think helped both us and the Americans understand the work we need to do to get, we hope, to an agreement," LeBlanc said in an interview with The Canadian Press after arriving in Montreal.

Manitoba premier cleared after accepting flights to Grey Cup games: investigation

Manitoba's ethics commissioner has cleared Premier Wab Kinew of any wrongdoing after he accepted and paid for private travel with Winnipeg's professional football team to go to two Grey Cup games.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers invited Kinew on a private charter to the 2023 Grey Cup game in Hamilton and the following year to the football finals in Vancouver. The Bombers were playing both years.

Berthelette reflects on narrow loss: 'Losing like this is just like winning!'

The anticipated edge-of-your-seat-byelection for who was going to claim their chair around the table in the Manitoba Legislature to represent Spruce Woods didn't disappoint.  Both PC Candidate (and now newly elected MLA) Colleen Robbins and NDP candidate, Ray Berthelette, both hovered close to that 3,000 mark, but Robbins took the win with just 70 votes more at the finish line.

Colleen Robbins (PC) received 2,805 votes.  Ray Berthelette (NDP) was not far behind with 2,735 votes, and Liberal candidate Stephen Reid came in with 444 votes.
