An 81-year-old Regina man was arrested earlier this month in relation to a sexual assault dating back to the 1970s, and police believe there are more survivors who have yet to come forward.

Russell RCMP received a report of a historical assault in March of this year, leading to the arrest of Constantin Turcoane.

Local dog owner in court following multiple incidents

Local woman, Maria Lewans has been in court following a lengthy history with the City of Swift Current, involving her dogs.
 
Alex Stevenson, bylaw compliance officer for the City of Swift Current, has had run-ins with Lewans and her canines before and is aware of her history with the City from before he stepped into his role.
 
"Our bylaw department has had dealings with Miss Lewans for a number of years now," said Stevenson. "Dating back to 2019."
 

Migratory moose on the loose in residential Swift Current

Southside residents in Swift Current may have noticed a loiterer around Hayes Drive last night.

Just before 11 p.m., a large moose was spotted trespassing several properties in the area, romping across front lawns.

The large herbivore may have been a little lost or simply seeking shade and water during the current heat wave -- whatever the reason for its visit to the city, was seemingly harmless.

Former Swift Current resident missing from southwest

The Moose Jaw Police Service is once again looking for able-bodied volunteers to assist in the search for 80-year-old Glen "Archie" Bell this morning.

Bell is a former Swift Current resident.

Over 100 volunteers worked with Police and Search and Rescue in a grid search of the City of Moose Jaw throughout the day Thursday.

Police say the 80-year-old man, who has dementia, went for a walk at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and has still not returned home.

City RCMP search for stolen bicycle

Swift Current City RCMP issued a media release this morning asking for public assistance in finding a stolen bicycle.

According to the report, it was stolen sometime between June 8 and June 11, from the 1100 block of George Street East.

The bicycle is a black and white Cult Gateway BMX, with red, grey and white wheels.

Swift Current proposes name change if Taylor Swift returns to province

A province-wide campaign to catch the attention of international pop star Taylor Swift has taken over Saskatchewan, especially the southwest. 

#BackToSaskatch caught the attention of some Swift Current dignitaries, leading to a proposal to change the city's name to an eponym of the singer, should she visit the province. 

Swift Current MLA Everett Hindley is one of the local leaders standing behind the playful proposition.

As part of a province-wide effort to catch the attention of international phenomenon, Taylor Swift, the City of Swift Current is offering to pay tribute to her by (temporarily) changing its name if she makes a visit to the province.
