A southwest man will be paying off more than $4,800 in fines and spend the next year and a half on probation after pleading guilty to a pair of charges garnered from two separate incidents in 2024.

54-year-old Patrick Estabrooks was sentenced on Wednesday in Swift Current Provincial Court on two of three counts; one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

The Swift Current Fire Department's quick action Wednesday evening ensured a successful rescue mission for a youth stranded at the cutbanks.

Emergency crews were mobilized around 7:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a child trapped at the end of the cutbanks on the south side of Swift Current.

Jim Green, deputy chief of the Swift Current Fire Department, said that upon their arrival, they found a young person on a steep embankment.

A Swift Current man is facing six charges, including assault and break and enter, after incidents in the Chaplin Street East area Tuesday night.

Swift Current Municipal RCMP responded to multiple reports of disturbances at approximately 8:00 PM.

Police say their investigation determined a vehicle struck a utility pole and then the side of a residence.

The impacted building was an apartment located on the corner of Chaplin Street East and 12th Avenue Northeast.

A late morning rollover on Sunday on the Trans-Canada Highway near Parkbeg has claimed the life of an Alberta resident.

The Moose Jaw RCMP received a report of the crash around 10:25 a.m. and responded to the incident about one kilometre east of Parkbeg.

All three emergency services responded to the rollover, but the lone occupant of the vehicle was declared deceased by EMS on the scene.

RCMP have identified the 23-year-old as a female from Calgary, and her family has been notified.

The Saskatchewan RCMP have released a few more details regarding a collision between an impaired driver and a parked RCMP cruiser in Swift Current.

A Swift Current City RCMP officer was conducting a curfew check on Wednesday night at a residence when he watched a vintage vehicle crash into his parked cruiser. The officer noted that the driver, 33-year-old Tyler White, didn't have his running lights on and was driving erratically on Friesen Street.

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health sent out an alert Tuesday evening about potential drug overdoses in Swift Current, including a fatal one.

According to the alert sent on the Alertable app, one death was a result of an overdose, while surviving cases have required hospitalization.

Hutch Ambulance received multiple suspected overdoses reported on Tuesday between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

"Dangerous drugs are in the area: drug sold as 'molly' (MDMA or ecstasy) contains unknown opioid," the alert said.

Swift Current Municipal RCMP are requesting the public's assistance to locate an individual who is currently wanted on warrants for several charges. 

Sheldon Bernard Onland is believed to be in Swift Current and is described as 6'2", around 170 pounds, with blond or brown hair. 

The 36-year-old is wanted on three charges;

Sexual interference, 
Failure to comply with a release order, and 
Failure to attend court.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is searching for a missing man that's wanted man by the Saskatchewan RCMP, whom they believe could be in the southwest.

Brenden Taylor and his dog, Milly, were last seen on April 27 in Edmonton around of 91 Street and 71 Avenue. 

The Saskatchewan RCMP has provided an update on the early morning crash south of Swift Current on Tuesday.

The single vehicle rollover on Highway 4, about six kilometres from Swift Current, was reported to the Swift Current Rural RCMP around 5 a.m.

The male teen driver later attended the hospital for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening.

A coyote sighting this afternoon in Swift Current.

An e-mail to Fairview School parents warned of a coyote sighting in the afternoon at the school playground and near the S3 Arenas.

There was also a post online about a coyote sighting on Burke Crescent at 12:30 PM. 

Parents are advised to remind their children to not approach any animal they don't know.
