Update: Airdrie RCMP warn of highway closures as emergency crews tend to collisions

Several earlier collisions both in Airdrie and north of the city are reported to have been cleared.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, Airdrie Mounties warned that road conditions in the Airdrie area continue to deteriorate, as fire crews and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) continue to attend to multiple collisions.

Heads up, Banff visitors! Construction to cause significant delays

If you're planning on heading to Banff National Park this week, Parks officials are reminding motorists of a major utility upgrade project occurring at the East Gate over the next few weeks.

According to officials, the construction work is slated to begin on Tuesday and will finish on May 3, weather permitting. 

UPDATE: Mounties caution of traffic slowdown

Mounties were cautioning the public of a traffic slowdown on Highway 1, between Jumping Pound Road and Highway 22. That has since been cleared.

"At this time, it is reported that 4-5 vehicles are taking up all lanes of the highway," police stated yesterday.

RCMP was asking motorists to please slow down and use caution in this area while they work to resolve the matter.

Highway traffic resumes after day of protests

On Monday evening, Cochrane Mounties alerted the public that the traffic diversion west of Cochrane on Highway 1 had ended.

"Traffic is flowing normally in both directions. RCMP thank the public for their cooperation," police stated.

Earlier on Monday evening, Mounties advised motorists that police were diverting traffic in the area. 

"RCMP is requesting motorists seek alternate routes," police stated in a brief afternoon update.

On Monday evening, Cochrane Mounties alerted the public that the traffic diversion west of Cochrane on Highway One had ended.

"Traffic is flowing normally in both directions. RCMP thank the public for their cooperation," police stated.

Cochrane Mounties has previously advised motorists that there may be potential delays or disruptions on Highway One west of Cochrane.

"If you have travel plans in this area during this time, consider alternate routes," a brief news release stated.

Heavy snow hits Airdrie, motorists advised to drive to conditions

As heavy snow blankets Airdrie, with local forecasts predicting two centimetres of accumulation, motorists are reminded to drive to the conditions.

Highways in and around Airdrie may be slick as the snow continues to fall. The QEII southbound towards Calgary city limits is reported as having deteriorating visibility. North of Airdrie, similar conditions have been reported, with the possibility of blowing snow.

Alberta RCMP has also reminded drivers to drive to road conditions if they are travelling this long weekend.

20-hour incident in Calgary's downtown ended safely

Over 20 hours after an incident shut down several major roadways and bridges in Calgary's downtown core, police have said that it has been resolved peacefully. The Reconciliation Bridge, the Fourth Avenue flyover and the Fifth Avenue flyover have all been re-opened.

According to police, late Wednesday evening, they were called to the Reconciliation Bridge for reports of a man suffering from a mental health crisis who had climbed to the top of the bridge.
