Need a tow? You'll need to wait for a few hours

The Alberta Motor Association's (AMA) estimated wait times for various roadside services in Airdrie can be anywhere from two to eight hours.

On Thursday, towing or winching is estimated at eight hours, while a battery boost is estimated at four hours. However, wait times in Clagary are stretching into 17 hours, with a service advisory having been placed on battery boosting.

Currently, anyone in Calgary needing a tow or winch will wait 17 hours, while a battery boost, lockout, flat tire, or fuel delivery is upwards of 13 hours.

Snowplow collision cause revealed

Airdrie RCMP has said that the collision that occurred on Wednesday afternoon just north of the city was due to white-out conditions following the snowplow.

"There were no injuries as a result of the collision," police said. 

Although the collision was cleared after several hours, motorists are asked to remain cautious as residual traffic congestion may continue.

Update: Three vehicle collision involving snowplow in Airdrie

A three-vehicle collision that snarled traffic just North of Airdrie has been cleared.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Mounties and other emergency crews were on the scene of a collision between a snowplow, a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle on the QEII, just North of Veterans Boulevard.

While the collision has been cleared, there are reports of heavy residual traffic. There are no details as to the extent of injuries. 

Motorists may encounter blowing snow; reminded to plug in vehicles

With snow accumulations forecast up to two centimetres this evening, motorists are asked to remain cautious as gusting winds may produce blowing snow on highways.

Southbound QEII towards Calgary city limits is reported to be in good condition, while roads within the City of Calgary are reported to have some blowing snow as well as partially icy sections. 

Northward towards Carstairs and Crossfield, QEII road conditions are reported as good as well. 

Update: Smash up causing lane closures in Airdrie

A multi-vehicle collision in the vicinity of the intersection of 8 Street and Bayside Boulevard has been cleared.

Earlier, on Tuesday morning traffic travelling Eastbound via Bayside Boulevard was completely blocked off, while Southbound traffic on 8 Street was slow going due to lane closures, and only one lane flowing. Northbound traffic was not affected. 

Emergency crews were on the scene, though there are no details on whether there were injuries. 

Here are the road conditions after the snowfall last night

Driving conditions have left some Airdronians worried after the snowfall last night.

According to reports, roadways in and around Airdrie are partly snow-covered or icy in some spots.

The QEII northbound of Airdrie is smooth sailing until the Red Deer area where it becomes snow and ice-covered in some areas, southbound is good until you get to Calgary according to 511 Alberta. Secondary routes like Highway 567 and Big Hill Springs Road are partly snow-covered with some ice.

Blowing snow and ice may make for hazardous drive near Airdrie

With up to five centimetres of snow forecasted to fall in and around Airdrie and the surrounding areas, motorists are reminded to exercise caution.

Due to strong wind gusts that are also accompanying the snowfall, there are reports of blowing snow on the QEII headed Southbound towards Calgary city limits. There is also ice and snow buildup on the shoulders of the highway, as well as slippery sections.
