Update: Highway North of Airdrie shutdown

There are reports that the QEII headed Southbound at Highway 27 near Olds has now been shut down due to several multi-vehicle collisions in the area.

Another multi-vehicle collision has also been reported on the QEII, Northbound near Township Road 320, three kilometres north of Didsbury. Mounties are imploring motorists to stay off the roads if possible.

"RCMP are currently on scene at multiple collisions between Olds and Didsbury on the QEII. Traffic cannot proceed through this area. Please stay off the Highway," Mounties stated. 

Update: Jack-knifed semi North of Airdrie causing morning delays

There are reports of a jack-knifed semi-trailer in the median on the QEII, Northbound near Highway 27, East of Olds as well as two more jack-knifed semi-trailers on the QEII, heading Southbound near Highway 582 near Didsbury.

It is being reported that both jack-knifed semis near Didsbury have been moved to the shoulder, however, motorists are asked to exercise caution when driving. 

Motorists are also reporting that the QEII North of Didsbury is very icy and there are several more semis in the ditches, while Southbound QEII appears to be at a complete standstill. 

Freezing Fog part of the morning commute for Airdronians

The current weather in Airdrie and the area is creating conditions where Rudolph's red nose would truly stand out. A thick blanket of fog has settled over the area, prompting a Fog Advisory from Environment Canada.

Near zero visibility freezing fog is occurring. Fog developed overnight and is expected to persist until late this morning. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.

Snow and freezing conditions ahead

With the snow anticipated to stop near midnight, along with the drop in temperatures, motorists can expect that driving conditions throughout the evening may change and become hazardous.

Although the QEII Southbound from Airdrie towards Calgary City limits is reported as bare and wet, those who may be travelling North of Airdrie may experience slush and icy sections. Highway 2A towards Carstairs is reported as being slushy and slippery. Motorists may also experience reduced visibility at times.

Highway re-opens north of Airdrie after collision

After a brief closure of the QEII, north of Airdrie due to a multi-vehicle collision, RCMP informed the public the roads were re-opened.

However, Mounties cautioned that there may be residual traffic delays and congestion for some time.

Earlier reports by police indicated that there were minor injuries in the collision. There was no information immediately available as the cause of the collision.

Update: Highway north of Airdrie closed after multi-vehicle collision

After a short closure of the QEII, northbound, north of Airdrie, Mounties said that a multi-vehicle collision had been cleared and the roads were re-opened for traffic.

Earlier, police reported minor injuries in the multi-vehicle collision north of the city, northbound on the QEII, near Township Road 274.

On Monday evening, motorists reported that emergency crews were attending the scene of the collision and that there had been major delays in the area.

Update: Morning collision may snarl traffic in Airdrie

A three-vehicle collision that occurred earlier on Monday morning Southbound on the QEII, in the vicinity of the Yankee Valley off-ramp just before the 40th Avenue Interchange, has been cleared. 

Motorists reported that there were severe traffic delays and congestion in the area.

Update: Vehicle rollover causing delays north of Airdrie

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Mounties said that a semi/trailer rollover that caused all three Southbound lanes to shut down north of Airdrie on the QEII had been cleared. 

Previously, police were attending the incident and had encouraged motorists to find an alternate route.

There may still be traffic delays and congestion in the area. 

UPDATE: Spun-out vehicle causing delays on the QEII

The spun-out vehicle that was on the QEII in Airdrie causing delays is now gone.

The vehicle was in the southbound lanes on the QEII near Yankee Valley Boulevard.

Crews are no longer on the scene.

The QEII has been reported to have icy patches and be snow-covered. It is recommended to postpone travel if possible.

There have been reports of vehicles stuck in the ditch along the QEII between Olds and Airdrie.
