Renovations underway in frozen foods section at Prairie Sky Co-op Food Store
With renovations currently underway at the Prairie Sky Co-op Food Store in Weyburn, General Manager Kevin Arthur said so far the exterior work is nearing completion, and work in the back room with a rebuilt meat cutting room and walk-in freezers and coolers has been done behind the scenes.
Work is now underway on the sales floor, which will impact customers somewhat.
Winter storm tapers off, weekend snowfall expected to follow
The first winter storm of the season is currently blowing its way out after significant snowfall and strong winds. Warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada, Danielle Desjardins says winter is settling in.
“That low pressure system that's been impacting most of the province actually is pulling off, so we're expecting snow and the wind to taper off later this morning into this afternoon. It'll be much cooler than it has been over the previous few months.”
Saskatchewan border crossings to see hour changes in New Year
Changes are coming to the hours of operation for several border crossings in Saskatchewan. In press releases issued earlier this week by both Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, it was announced on the Canadian side there would be 35 land ports of entry that have the hours change on January 6th, while the American side will have the hours adjusted at 38 ports.

The Weyburn Fire Department is making waves this Movember, with $2,280 raised as of the morning of November 20th and no signs of slowing down. According to firefighter Chuck Hignett, the team’s involvement is about more than just the iconic mustaches—it’s about tackling issues like men’s mental health, prostate and testicular cancer, and suicide awareness.
Government spending in limbo as Tories, Liberals continue game of chicken in House
Treasury Board President Anita Anand is warning that if the House of Commons doesn't get back to regular business, some government departments might be in financial trouble.
On Monday, Anand tabled a supplementary estimates request for $21.6 billion to fund programs including housing, dental care and the national school food program.
One of the biggest-ticket items is $970.8 million for compensation adjustments for civil servants as a result of collective bargaining agreements.

WPS school zone traffic enforcement makes a difference
After observing various unsafe driving practices around school zones since September, the Weyburn Police Service have put a focus on school zone traffic enforcement. Deputy Chief Shane St. John says matters have improved.
“There's always a work in progress. The members have been doing a great job of getting out there and policing the school zones, and I think that helps deter a lot of issues that were being had. As long as we have the manpower to be out there patrolling, they're not tied up with something else, they will be on those school zones at the key times.”
