Weyburn was treated to a thunderstorm yesterday, the first real thunderstorm of the season, and many Weyburnites are now packing up the parkas and breaking out the flip flops.
But is the winter season REALLY over?
We’ve joked many times lately that since we didn’t really get a “second winter”, we aren’t ready to pack up the boots and parkas just yet, and, as Danielle Desjardins of Environment Canada explains, that feeling isn’t entirely off base.

Weyburn Horticultural Society's Plant Sale: how to donate, shop this Thursday
The Weyburn Horticultural Society will host the Spring Plant Sale fundraiser this Thursday, May 15th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until everything is sold out, in the Community Room at the Weyburn Credit Union, via the central entrance located at 205 Coteau Avenue.
WHS Member Heather Cugnet said anyone wishing to donate plants to the sale can drop off between 9 and 11 a.m.

Canadian residents returning by automobile from the U.S. in April fell on a year-over-year basis for the fourth consecutive month, preliminary numbers released by Statistics Canada showed Monday. The 1.2 million trips represented a 35.2 per cent drop from the same month in 2024 and 45.1 per cent lower than April 2019, before the pandemic.

While the recent federal election turned into a tight race between the Liberals and Conservatives that left other parties trailing far behind, a new poll suggests most Canadians don't want the country end up with a two-party system.
The poll of over 1,600 Canadians, conducted by Leger Marketing for the Association for Canadian Studies between May 1 and 3, suggests only 21 per cent of Canadians think the country would be better off with a system where two parties dominate the political landscape.
Child luring charges laid against Weyburn man
The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit laid charges against a Weyburn man for child exploitation offences.
The Saskatchewan ICE Unit commenced an online investigation in February 2024 related to child luring. On July 17 of last year, they executed a search warrant on a Weyburn home. Electronic devices were examined and seized by investigators.
Resulting from the investigation, 45-year-old Robert Brydon was charged with four counts of luring a child last Friday.
Carlyle RCMP investigating trio of business break-ins, suspect at large
The Carlyle RCMP is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a person of interest related to a break and enter late last week.
Early last Friday morning, three Carlyle businesses were broken into, and a few hundred dollars in cash were stolen. The suspect is also believed to have stolen a hamster that belonged to one of the business owners.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 40 to 50 years old, between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, with a goatee, wearing glasses and dressed in dark clothing.
