Sometimes the most powerful ideas don’t come from a boardroom — they come from the back pasture. This August, the Southeast TechHub is launching a hands-on initiative with SaskBeef that puts innovation boots-on-the-ground. The concept is simple but impactful: bring innovators out to a working ranch, let them see real-world challenges up close, and help them build solutions that actually fit the industry’s needs.

Brian Barry McKay, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on July 11, 2025 at the age of 72 years.

There will be no funeral service.

Provincial parks open their gates for Parks Week

Yesterday marked the first day of Parks Week in Saskatchewan, where provincial parks are inviting visitors to explore nature with events and activities lined up at parks across the province.

In a release sent by the Government of Saskatchewan, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Alana Ross is quoted saying "Saskatchewan Parks Week is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, connect with nature and experience the vibrant events happening throughout our parks."

Dutch Elm Disease identified in ten city-owned trees in 2025 so far

The City of Weyburn Parks Department have been doing their due diligence in surveying for Dutch Elm Disease within the city. Parks Manager Curtis Block says so far, ten trees have been identified with the disease. 

“Since 2017, including both city and private, 120 elm trees have been removed due to Dutch Elm disease within the city. Within the city's inventory, there are approximately 930 American elms, so this represents about 12 percent of our total city inventory and there's an unknown amount of privately owned trees.” 

Reallocation of funds, permit application, and more before Weyburn City Council tonight

Weyburn City Council will be holding their regular meeting in council chambers tonight at 6 p.m.  

They’ll be looking over a few reports, including the building and demolition permit report, the public works monthly report, and the water treatment plant report. 

Anand says Indo-Pacific strategy will have economic focus but maintain values

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand says the economy is becoming the primary focus of Canada's relationships in the Indo-Pacific — a shift that appears linked to Canada's recent moves to overcome its security dispute with India.

Anand was in Japan and Malaysia this week for her first trip to the region since taking over as foreign minister in May. Her message coming out of that trip was that Canada's foreign policy is shifting — though not abandoning — the priorities set by the previous Liberal government of former prime minister Justin Trudeau.

ICYMI: Band in the Park coming to Weyburn, band musicians welcome to join

The Saskatchewan Band Association is bringing 'Band in the Park' to Weyburn's Jubilee Park on Tuesday evening. It's an opportunity for band musicians to bring their brass, reed, wind, or percussion instruments out for an open-air musical interlude that is completely free for those playing, and for those listening.

Events Coordinator Addisen Nelson said musicians can register online to access the music prepared for the event.

National Defence considering purchase of fighter drones that could fly with F-35

The Department of National Defence is looking at the possibility of complementing its incoming F-35 fleet with uncrewed combat aircraft.

Unclassified documents obtained by The Canadian Press show the department is researching various options for acquiring the emerging technology.

The documents suggest that purchasing a fleet of aerial combat drones that could fly alongside fighter jets could cost as much as $16 billion and would require hundreds of staff.

Carney's ethics filing reveals details of conflict of interest screen on Brookfield
