CN Rail receives strike notice
About 750 Canadian National Railway employees are threatening to strike beginning on Saturday.
The company announced Wednesday that it received a 72-hour strike notice from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Wages and benefits are two of the main issues.
CN remains optimistic that an agreement can be reached without a labour disruption.

The City of Fort Saskatchewan is getting ready to host Forward Together: Indigenous Peoples Day in Fort Saskatchewan.
On Jun. 21, you can see a variety of performances from Indigenous dancers, musicians and speakers.
"We have been very lucky to work with local Indigenous partners and representatives from the Métis Nation of Alberta during the planning stages of this event," said Jessica Weller, the culture and heritage supervisor for the City of Fort Saskatchewan.

Fort High teacher wins impressive coaching award
A Fort Saskatchewan High School teacher was awarded the Metro Athletics Boys Volleyball Coach of the Year for Division 4.
Kory Wlos looks after nearly every aspect of physical education at the school from classes to teams.
"[I'm] happy but I felt that it's actually a team award," said Wlos.
This is his second time winning a Coach of the Year award from Metro Athletics.
“Sometimes we have kids that come in that never played high level competitive volleyball and then all of a sudden I ask them to go in certain situations and they do well.”
Police continue to search for suspect who pointed gun at woman
Police have issued a sketch in hopes of identifying a man who they say pointed a gun at a woman in Strathcona County.
Just after 9 p.m. on May 14, Strathcona County RCMP responded to a 911 call involving a gun at an area known as “The End of The World," a lookout point north of Highway 16 on Township Road 540 near Sherwood Park.
According to police, the victim, a woman, got into a verbal argument with an unknown man when he told her he had a gun. When the man returned to his vehicle, he pointed what was believed to be a handgun at the woman.
Redwater man and niece cycle across Canada for Crohn's
Robert and Karley Finnegan are an uncle and niece duo cycling across Canada to raise funds and awareness for Crohn's disease.
Residing on a farm just outside of Redwater, the two made the trip to Victoria, B.C., on May 26 to dip their bike tires in the Pacific Ocean to signify the start of their journey.
Now, they are just over 20 days into their trip and have run into many ups and downs, primarily due to the extreme weather conditions in southern Alberta.
Treaty 6, Métis flags to permanently fly outside EIPS central office
Some new flags can be seen outside of the Elk Island Public Schools’ (EIPS) Central services office.
On Monday (Jun. 13) a flag-raising ceremony was held outside of the office building, where the Treaty 6 and Métis flags will now permanently fly.
Fort Saskatchewan Rebels looking to build on pre-COVID success
Lacrosse season is in full swing.
This is the first post-COVID-19 season for the Fort Saskatchewan Rebels, and they're looking to build off their pre-pandemic success. The Juniors were coming off two Northern Division championships and were one goal short of going to Nationals in 2019. After an absent 2020 season, the Rebels played a brief exhibition season in 2021 where they made the playoffs.

Michelle Rempel Garner, a longtime Conservative MP from Calgary, says she's stepping back from the federal Conservative leadership race to consider running for Jason Kenney's job.
Rempel Garner was serving as co-chair on Patrick Brown's leadership campaign when Kenney stunned many last month by announcing he was resigning as premier of Alberta and leader of the United Conservative Party after narrowly surviving a leadership review.
Rempel Garner's name soon started to circulate as a potential successor to Kenney.
Dynamic messaging signs coming to local highways later this summer
Northeast Region Community Awareness Emergency Response (NRCAER) is in the final stages of installing dynamic message signs throughout the industrial heartland.
Emergency alerts, major collisions, Amber Alerts, natural disasters, and more will be displayed on the signs.
The project was announced in 2019 during the Lamont Life in the Heartland community information meeting, but it was delayed due to COVID-19 and other obstacles. Now, the signs are in the ground and will be fully installed and operational later this summer.
This year's most decorated athlete from Fort High
Georgia Leblanc is the most decorated athlete from Fort Saskatchewan High School this year.
Leblanc is a Grade 12 student who was awarded the Female Basketball All-star Award from Metro High School Athletics. She was also given Fort High's Basketball MVP, Most Improved Volleyball Athlete and 2022 Female Athlete of the Year.
Aside from volleyball and basketball, she also participated in track and field in Grade 10 and 11.
