Sports Round-Up: Tuesday, September 17

Ahead of their regular reason starting this weekend, the Moose Jaw Warriors have released some special attractions for local hockey fans.

One of this year’s home game highlights is Championship Tuesdays, with limited edition cards being handed out at select games in recognition of the Warriors’ championship victory last season. 

The Warriors open up their new season Friday in Brandon with the home opener Saturday against the Prince Albert Raiders.

As their pre-season continues, the Winmar AAA Warriors are in Regina tonight to face the Pat Canadians. 

Okotoks Oilers fan favourite playing in USHL

A fan favourite of the Green Army won't be back on the team this season.

Sam Huck has taken his talents to the USHL.

Huck, who got cheers anytime he touched the ice, became the second all-time point leader for the Okotoks Oilers. Huck is just one point back from Kyle Reynolds, who currently holds the title of most points in an Oilers uniform. Huck posted 71 goals, and 98 assists for 164 career total points for the Green and Gold.

Schroeder reflects on September Camp

Hockey Canada's National Women's Team September Camp wrapped up Sunday in Thorold, Ontario. 

Five Manitoban's were invited to camp including defenders Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne and Ashton Bell of Deloraine along with goaltenders Raygan Kirk of Ste. Anne, Kristen Campbell of Brandon and Elm Creek's Corinne Schroeder.

Schroeder says it's quite an opportunity to attend the national camp, her second consecutive invite.

Sports Update - Tuesday, September 17th

The Tiger Hills Hockey League will operate with 13 teams this upcoming season. The Gladstone Lakers, Pilot Mound Pilots and Wawanesa Jets confirmed they would take a one-year leave of absence at the league's fall meeting Monday night in Wawanesa. Returning teams have been split into two divisions. The Boissevain Border Kings, Deloraine Royals, Virden Oil Kings, Souris Elks, Hartney Blues and defending champion Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks will play in the West Division.

Sports Update - Tuesday, September 17th

The Hanover Kickers game against AK Academy was rained out Monday night and will not be played. The game had no bearing on the standings. The Kickers, who finished in last place in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's 1st Division with a record of one win, four draws and 13 losses totaling seven points, will be relegated to the 2nd Division next season.

Kasen Mateychuk, Grayson Slaney, Nash Riach, Rowan French & Crosby Mateychuk of the Roseau Valley Raiders and Brooke Henderson, Ella Harkness, Kora Montour, Lexi Henderson & Paige Bailey of the Portage Collegiate Saints captured the Zone 4 High School Golf Championship banners Monday at the Scotswood Links golf course in Elm Creek. Kyler Zulyniak of the Sanford Sabres had the low round of the day with a one-under par 70. Brooke Henderson's 90 was the low girls score. The Provincial High School Golf Championships will be held this Friday at Minnewasta in Morden.

Portage Collegiate Saints Zone 4 golf champions

The Portage Collegiate Saints golf team captured the Zone 4 High School golf championship banner Monday at the Scotswood Links golf course in Elm Creek. 

Brooke Henderson (90), Ella Harkness (93), Kora Montour (98), Lexi Henderson (116) & Paige Bailey (164) of PCI took the girls title with a score of 281. Rory Perrin (105), Willow Winslow (111), Rylee Harms (116), Delaney Darby (118) & Aubree Sloan (120) of Morden finished second with a 332 total.

The three best scores were used to determine the team results. 

Raiders & Saints are Zone 4 golf champions

Roseau Valley boys and Portage Collegiate girls captured the Zone 4 High School golf championship banners Monday at the Scotswood Links golf course in Elm Creek. 

Kasen Mateychuk (71), Crosby Mateychuk (75), Grayson Slaney (82), Nash Riach (87) & Rowan French (96) of the Raiders finished four shots ahead Sanford's Kyler Zulyniak (70), Austin Illife (77), Tyler Kendall (85), Maxwell Nabess (88) & Jaymyn McIntrye (89).

The three best scores were used to determine the team results.
