Penalty trouble at the Calgary Stampede Chuckwagon races changes up aggregate
The track was wet and a bit slow on the Rangeland Derby on Sunday night, and several penalties slowed down some of the drivers' rankings.
Defending Champion High River's Jason Glass took out a barrel, costing him 5 seconds and pushing him from 3rd down into 13th place in the aggregate.
Glass also suffered a 5-second penalty in last year's Calgary Stampede, but also set a new track record and was able to overcome his penalty and went on to win it all.
Beavers win rain-shortened game against Swift Current
After a rough Alberta road trip that saw the team unable to pick up a win in six attempts, the Weyburn Beavers made their return to Tom Laing Park Sunday night. While rain and lightning would prompt an early end to the game after six innings, it was enough for the Beavers to get back in the win column with an 8-6 victory.
Mixed results in a full weekend of baseball for the 18UAAA Red Sox
It was a busy weekend for the East Central 18UAAA Red Sox with two double headers, one at home and one away.
Saturday's matchups did not go the Red Sox way as they fell 5 - 3 and 15 - 3 to the Regina Athletics.
Macklin hosts 23 teams for provincial softball
The provincial softball season kicked off around the province this past weekend with a few different tournaments, including U11 Girls 'B' North in Macklin featuring several local teams as part of 23 in total making the trip to the west-central community.
The Macklin Lakers and Unity Panthers shared the Green Pool with four other teams. Macklin finished 2-1, Unity at 1-2, neither able to advance to Sunday's playoff round.
Canada comes out on top as Saskatoon hosts International Men’s Fast Pitch 4 Nations Cup
The softball diamonds at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex in Saskatoon hosted the International Men’s Fast Pitch 4 Nations Cup this past weekend.
The four-team tournament featured the Canadian Men's National Team, the New Zealand Black Sox coming to Saskatoon from down under, along with Team USA, and Team Japan. Tournament organizers teased the play as a joy to watch, and things certainly didn't disappoint with the Thursday through Saturday tournament.
