Broncos visit Raiders

The Swift Current Broncos are looking to start a new winning streak tonight in Prince Albert.

They have their four-game streak snapped on Wednesday in Lethbridge as the Hurricanes beat them 3-1.

Swift Current sits at 8-6 on the season as they head to Prince Albert to play the 4-7-2 Raiders.

The Broncos beat Prince Albert 5-4 at home in their first win of the 2024-25 WHL season.

Swift Current is back home to host Regina on Saturday.

Oilers add forward depth in trade with Brooks

The BCHL Interior Division rivals have made a trade with the Brooks Bandits, sending forward Brock Souch to the Okotoks Oilers for future considerations.

Souch started his junior career with the Sherwood Park Crusaders during the 2022-2023 season. He would produce 35 points with 12 coming from goals during his rookie season.

The 2006-born forward split time between the Crusaders and Bandits last season adding 62 points in 58 games. This season Souch has played in eight games and accumulated a goal and an assist on the season so far.

Drilling for Oil: Olivier Ciarlo

Laval, Quebec-born goaltender Olivier Ciarlo has quickly become a household name for the Green Army as he has been a backbone for the Okotoks Oilers in his first season with the team.

Ciarlo spent the last four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada before heading over to the BCHL this season.

Team Homan to play for gold

Canada’s Team Rachel Homan will go for gold at the Pan Continental Championships after a 6-5 victory over China’s Team Rui Wang at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex Friday (Nov. 1) morning.   

With the win, Homan, vice-skip Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew, lead Sarah Wilkes, alternate Rachel Brown, and national coaches Viktor Kjell and Renee Sonnenberg advance to Saturday’s (Nov. 2) 3 p.m. championship game against South Korea’s Team Eunji Gim.  

McFadden learning from early-season opportunities

Victoria, BC – The injury bug hit the Moose Jaw Warriors hard early in the season with some key, veteran forwards missing time.

While that led to struggles for the team, it could also pay dividends as the season progress with some younger players getting more opportunities higher in the lineup.

“It helps you get your confidence now and dip your feet into the league a bit more, you’re getting more opportunities and more looks and that’s going to give you scoring chances,” Warriors rookie forward Landen McFadden said.

Chestermere woman ready to compete in World Wakesurf Championships

Jolene Allen started wakesurfing 10 years ago and began competing in the scene shortly after.

She says she went to an event and ended up winning. Following that, she was hooked.

"Fast forward now and I actually help volunteer for the Alberta tour and I'm the head judge."

Allen also hosts a wakesurfing camp for kids at her house on Chestermere Lake in the summer.

Landmark Blues head into the season with a special team

Landmark Blues have a strong program in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League this year. 

Jackson Reimer, forward for the Blues, is going into his third year with the team and says it has been the best place he’s ever played. 

“I wouldn't want to play anywhere else. I've had opportunities to play elsewhere but stay loyal to Landmark because it’s a special team, special group, and I think we can do something very special this season.”
