Slow start to nail-biting finish for Red Wings

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings extended their winning streak to three games and their points streak to 11 Friday night after they edged the Klippers 5-4 in Kindersley. The win moved the Wings back into first place in the Viterra Division and second overall in the SJHL. 

Kindersley would come out firing at the beginning of the game, taking advantage of a Weyburn squad that had bussed up during the day for the game. 

Callahan nets five goals in Bisons thrashing in Three Hills

Sam Callahan has been a scoring machine for the Carstar Okotoks Bisons, and tonight (Nov. 1) was no different as he scored five goals in a 15-1 clinic against the Thrashers in Three Hills.

Callahan is now firmly in the lead for most goals in the HJHL with 18; the next closest is a tie between Kyle Woolridge of the Medicine Hat Cubs and Brandon Harnack with the Ponoka Stampeders with 13. Callahan has also positioned himself at number two in the league for most points with 24 after tonight's six-point night. Justin Gyori is at number one with 25 points.

SEMHL champs ready for home-opener

The two teams who met in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League final last March will meet tonight (7 p.m.) in Ste. Anne as the two-time defending champion Aces play their home opener against the Warren Mercs.

Ste. Anne swept Warren in four straight.

The Aces, who rallied from an 0-3 series deficit and beat the Morden Bombers in the 2022-23 SEMHL final, are on a six-season streak when it comes to winning championships.

Murphy's Law makes an appearance at Flyers home opener

What was turning out to be a special night for the High River Flyers tonight (Nov. 10) ended in an unpredictable circumstance in a season filled with whirlwinds for the Flyers.

High River put on a show to start their 2024-2025 HJHL home opener with player introductions, a smoke and light show, and a ceremonial puck drop against the Rocky Rams. It was the first Flyers home game since game four (April 30, 2024) against the Bisons last season.

Sports Update - Saturday, November 2nd

The Carman Beavers and Red River Wild were winners in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League Friday night. Marcus Sekundiak potted the winner on the power play 2:04 into overtime to lift the Beavers past the Ile des Chenes Northstars 4-3. Noah Skorpad, Dane Halstead and Everett Bestland scored in regulation for Carman. Tyler Swerdyliak had a pair of goals for the Northstars. Brent Wold had the other Ile des Chenes goal. Geordie Keane scored the only goal of the shootout to lift the Wild past the Winkler Royals 4-3. T.J. Matuszewski scored twice in regulation for Red River.

Team Gushue finishes fourth overall at 2024 Pan Continental Championships

Canada’s Team Brad Gushue placed fourth overall, after a 10-8 loss to Team Shuster of the United States in the men's bronze-medal game Friday (Nov. 1) afternoon at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex.  

The loss marks the first time the Canadian men's team will not reach the podium at this event.  

Broncos visit Raiders

The Swift Current Broncos are looking to start a new winning streak tonight in Prince Albert.

They have their four-game streak snapped on Wednesday in Lethbridge as the Hurricanes beat them 3-1.

Swift Current sits at 8-6 on the season as they head to Prince Albert to play the 4-7-2 Raiders.

The Broncos beat Prince Albert 5-4 at home in their first win of the 2024-25 WHL season.

Swift Current is back home to host Regina on Saturday.
