Update: Calgary police warning of road closure after Friday evening traffic incident on Stoney Trail
A traffic incident shut down access to Stoney Trail near 69th Street SW on Friday evening, but Calgary police say all affected routes have since reopened.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 8 were closed at Bragg Creek for several hours, cutting off access to Stoney Trail. Access from Bow Trail was also restricted during the closure.
Calgary Police Service issued an advisory asking drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Alberta finance Minister to deliver year-end fiscal update, $5.8B surplus forecasted
Alberta’s finance minister is set to deliver the final bottom line number today on last year’s provincial budget.
Nate Horner’s new figure will close the books on the budget for the fiscal year that ended in March.
That budget was last forecast to come in with a nearly $6-billion surplus.
Alberta’s new budget year is now a few months old, but its expected bottom line number is deep in the red.
This budget, introduced by Horner in February, predicts Alberta will register a $5.2-billion deficit at the end of March 2026.

The Airdrie Pro Rodeo opens today, launching five days of competitions, concerts and family programming at the Airdrie Rodeo Grounds.
Running June 27 to July 1, the annual event includes pro rodeo performances, junior events, live music, a vendor marketplace, and Family Day activities in support of the Airdrie Food Bank.

How much has Airdrie grown? 2025 census results coming Wednesday
The City of Airdrie will unveil its 2025 population total on July 2, following the completion of its latest municipal census earlier this month.
The city council is expected to receive the official results during its meeting on Wednesday. The updated figures will offer a detailed look at Airdrie’s growth and demographic shifts after a 63-day census period that ran from April 1 to June 2.
Canada Day weekend: Free entry at national parks, but closures and warnings in Banff, Kananaskis
With school out and national park access now free, officials are warning of closures, bears and trail hazards in Banff and Kananaskis.
Access to Bow Glacier Falls in Banff National Park remains restricted following a deadly rockslide earlier this month.
The area is closed under subsection 36(1) of the National Parks General Regulations. The order was issued by the Banff superintendent on June 20 and will remain in effect until further notice to ensure public safety and support park operations.
