Lions thrilled with selection of Breanna as Stampede Princess

The Lions Royalty committee and the Cochrane Lions Club are thrilled with the selection of former rodeo queen Breanna Correia as the 2025 Calgary Stampede Princess.

Lions Royalty coordinator Monique Richardson says Breanna is a true ambassador of agriculture and rodeo and believes she'll do a phenomenal job when she becomes the Stampede Princess in January.

The 47 vendors of handmade goods at this year's Gifted Winter Art Market saw a steady crowd at the Spark Centre on Saturday, in spite of the  first real snowfall of the season impeding some peoples' desire to go outside

"Just over 500 through the doors, not including vendors, which was down from last year but not unexpected given the weather," shared Co-chair of the Weyburn Arts Council, Natasha Hill. 

Hill added they encourage Weyburn residents to continue to 'shop local'.

When does your tree go up?

Over the weekend, I heard many friends and family started to put up their Christmas trees and I thought I'd do the same.

So on Monday, I wondered when everyone else put up their Christmas tree. That question was for listeners of the Country 100 afternoon show, brought to you by Ashdowns Furniture & Interiors. 

We had a pair of callers, Angela Kristina and Annette Hiebert, hop on the show to tell us about their Christmas trees and when they like to put them up. Here is what they had to say. 

 

It's Holiday Smile Cookie Week: support your local food bank

It's time to stock up on cookies to benefit the Weyburn Salvation Army Food Bank simply by purchasing one or more of the Holiday Smile Cookies from Tim Horton's!

From today until Sunday, half of the proceeds from all Holiday Smile Cookies will support the food bank, which helps out those who are in need year-round in Weyburn.

Volunteers are helping this week to ensure everyone has enough cookies, which are $1.50 each. They can also be ordered by the dozen.

[GALLERY]: WCS Senior Musical 'Pop Stars' debuts this week

The Weyburn Comprehensive School senior musical, "Pop Stars" will be hitting the Cugnet Centre stage this Wednesday at 7 p.m. Showtimes continue Thursday and Friday evenings, with a dessert theatre performance on Sunday, November 24th. 

The senior musical was moved this year to the fall semester, as the WCS spring musical for the 2023-24 year was canceled due to the teachers' strike.

During the dress rehearsal on Sunday, we spoke with some of the Grade 12 student lead actors in the musical.

Annaheim, Wakaw and Lanigan all win girls volleyball provincial championships

Championship season is well underway in high school volleyball across the province. 

This past weekend, Girls volleyball provincial championships were held, along with Boys volleyball regionals.  

It was a strong weekend for local Girls volleyball teams. 

In the 1A final, Annaheim defeated Leroy for the gold medal.
