Martens Mutterings: Weird food combos

So, as I watch my children(one anyways) dip cucumbers in mayo and exclaim how delicious it is as I try not to throw up, it made me think of other weird food combos. Granted, with food, it is all a matter of opinion as to what you find is good and isn't. Example; I think onions and pickles belong in their own category: Trash Bag Foods. I can not stand either. I in many cases, am the minority in that opinion.

Jack Semple making a special musical visit to Little Manitou Art Gallery

Get set for a special up close and personal concert experience with Saskatchewan’s own guitar virtuoso Jack Semple. Semple will be performing a solo show on Stage at the Little Manitou Art Gallery this Saturday, August 2 as a benefit for the Gallery.  

“It’s a wonderful gallery,” Semple notes. “It’s a seasonal business, so in the summertime there are customers, but in the winter, not as many. I just love all the artwork there, so I want to support it.” 

Final days to enter Weyburn Trails Association bike raffle

Time is running out to support the Weyburn Trails Association and potentially win a new mountain bike. They'll be making the draw on July 31st.

The volunteer-led organization is holding a raffle for a 2024 Norco Storm 1 mountain bike, with the draw scheduled for this Wednesday. All proceeds from the raffle will be used to fund equipment and build and maintain the trail system in and around Weyburn. 

Co-op $5 community lunch moves to Eatonia this week

The Kindersley and District Co-op’s community lunch program is continuing this week in Eatonia, with all proceeds going toward local recreation.

This week’s lunch features chili and a bun, served at the Eatonia Community Hall on Main Street. Funds raised will support Eatonia & District Recreation.

Last week, community members gathered for burgers and hotdogs, raising $1,230 for the Kindersley 365 Air Cadets.

Sask. artists sow seeds of creativity with new residency

A pilot project from a local art gallery is set to kick off over the long weekend with a duo of talented artists at a southwest provincial park.

Aurora Wolfe and Melanie Monique Rose will stay at the Saskatchewan Landing from August 1 to 7, leading art workshops and spending time connecting with nature. 

Luke Maddaford, curator of exhibitions and programming at the Art Gallery of Swift Current, shared that the initiative is thanks to a new partnership between the Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park and the Art Gallery of Swift Current.
