Industry is applauding the federal government’s progress toward a foot-and-mouth disease vaccine bank after it awarded supply contracts to two companies.

Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health and Biogenesis Bago SA will supply vaccine products and develop the vaccine bank.

Canadian Cattle Association Saskatchewan director and former Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association president Garner Deobald, who formerly worked for Boehringer, said both companies are well respected and were good choices.

“I think it is important, for sure, to be ready,” he said.

Wilfred Bernard Beckman

It is with great sadness that the family of Wilfred Bernard Beckman, 82 years of Bruno, announce his passing on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Humboldt District Hospital, with his family at his side.

The Saskatchewan Government announced on Monday that they would be committing $20 million to communities and individuals who have been affected by this year’s wildfires.  

Through the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA), a dedicated Recovery Task Team (RTT) has been established to lead the province's wildfire recovery efforts.

It was a perfect weekend for the Rosebud Royals as they ran the table at the 15U Open Fastpitch Boys Championship on the weekend in Saskatoon. 

The Royals claimed the 2025 provincial championship, defeating the Valley Blue Jays 3-2 in the championship final.  

On Friday, the Royals began the tournament defeating the Prince Albert Astros 11-7. They followed that up with an 11-0 win over Valley.  

With the provincial baseball championships just around the corner, Sask Baseball has announced the host venues for the majority of the tournaments.  

Humboldt will be the host sire for the 11U AA Tier 1 Championships from Friday, July 18 until Sunday, July 20 in a nine-team tournament.  

Watrous will host the 11U AA Tier 3 championships, from July 18-20 also a nine-team tournament.  

Sask Hockey has announced the camp lineup for the U16 Top 34 camp with a couple of local players making the list.  

Defenceman Kohen Ruedig from Humboldt and Kash Elke from Lanigan were named to the camp.  

The Top 34 camp is the last stage before the selection of the roster that will represent Team Saskatchewan at the WHL Cup in October.  

The East Central 15U AAA Dodgers enjoyed a successful weekend as they won three of four games in a pair of doubleheaders.  

The tiny community of Esk saw its population grow ten-fold on Friday night, July 4, with a special concert dubbed Esk Fest. The yard and shop of Chris and Colleen Therres became a makeshift amphitheatre for a special visit by Mike Lynch and sidekick Marshall Jaaskelainen on stand-up bass and vocals.
