4 people injured in 4 separate stabbings in 24-hour span

Police are investigating after several people were seriously injured in stabbings over the weekend.

The Winnipeg Police Service says in a release that they were called to a total of four stabbing-related incidents on Saturday and Sunday with at least one person requiring surgery.

The first incident occurred at 1:20 a.m. on Saturday in the area of Ellice Ave. and Sherbrook St.

'Historic night' for UGM at first-ever youth night

Around 125 youths from various churches throughout southern Manitoba worshipped together and heard the gospel on Friday evening.

Union Gospel Mission of Winnipeg was the organizer of the evening, bringing the young people together at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church.

UGM is hosting its annual fundraising banquets at the church on Saturday and this year decided to bring teens together the night before. 

Man killed in collision west of Shoal Lake

One man is dead following a collision in Westman on Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the scene just west of Shoal Lake, Man., on Highway 42 around 2 p.m.

A semi hauling grain and a truck carrying anhydrous collided on the highway.

The driver of the anhydrous truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. The semi driver was sent to hospital with minor injuries.

Highway 42 was closed from Shoal Lake to Provincial Road 264 from 2 p.m. until almost midnight as crews responded and while RCMP investigated.

5 residential fires in 14-hour span

Firefighters in Winnipeg were kept busy Thanksgiving weekend, being called to several house fires.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) says in a release that they were called to five residential fires beginning on Sunday evening and ending Monday morning.

The first fire was in a single-storey home in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue. Crews were called around 5:45 p.m. 

Vulnerable senior missing for over 24 hours safely located: police

The Winnipeg Police Service says that a man at the centre of a silver alert has been safely located.

The WPS had put out a request for assistance in locating the 73-year-old man early Sunday. They said he was last seen in the area of Portage Ave. and Spence St. in the City of Winnipeg on Saturday, October 08, 2022, at approximately 10:00 AM.

The WPS sent out a notification just after 2:30 p.m. to say he had been found.

Growing season ends with frosty Friday, but how cold did it get?

We woke up Friday morning to the first widespread, killing frost of the season. Right across Southern Manitoba, temperatures dipped well below freezing for several hours ending the growing season for farmers and gardeners alike. An area of high pressure over the region kept the sky clear and winds light, the perfect combination to bring about a frosty morning.

Missing 81-year-old safely located

An elderly woman is back home safe and sound after going missing on Tuesday.

Police had sent out a silver alert for a missing 81-year-old woman just before midnight on Tuesday evening. The woman had last been seen in the Booth area of Winnipeg earlier in the day around 4:30 p.m.

Approximately one hour after sending out the alert the WPS then notified the media that the woman had been safely located.
