Bird e-scooters flying to Cochrane for season

Cochrane residents, get ready to spread your wings once again, Bird e-scooters are returning to town on April 1 (weather permitting).

According to the Town of Cochrane, the partnership with Bird Canada aims to reduce carbon emissions, ease traffic congestion, and provide an alternative to those who want to skip the car for a more sustainable way to get around.

Liberal Leader Mark Carney has confirmed a federal election will be called on April 28, speaking outside Rideau Hall after requesting Parliament be dissolved.

Carney will be running in the Ottawa riding of Nepean.

The Nepean riding has been held by Liberal MP Chandra Arya for the last decade, but the party recently revoked his nomination.

Exciting bids and big prizes tonight at Water Valley Auction

This beloved 35th annual Water Valley Stud Auction is set to take place tonight (Mar 22), at the Water Valley Community Hall.

“It started as a fundraiser selling stud horse fees to raise money for the community, and it’s grown into a big community auction,” says Robin Smith, the auction coordinator,. “We don't have stud horses anymore, but we still have all kinds of items, home goods, and just about anything you could want or need.”

Premiers meet with PM Mark Carney, call for end to internal trade barriers

Several of Canada's premiers called for the elimination of interprovincial trade barriers on Friday ahead of a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Carney was meeting with premiers at the Canadian War Museum Friday afternoon to discuss the federal government's response to Chinese and U.S. tariffs.

Speaking to reporters before the meeting, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said "we need a united Canada."

CCA teachers and Mounties shave heads for kids cancer fundraiser

On Friday morning, a gym full of excited Cochrane Christian Academy (CCA) students gathered in their gym for the highly anticipated Beauty & The Beards event.

The crowd cheered as teachers and local RCMP officers lined up to have their heads and beards shaved in support of Camp Kindle and the Kids Cancer Care network.

Chants filled the room as kids rooted for their favourite teachers and police officers, with RCMP Cst. Nathan Moore even convinced to take it a step further, getting his eyebrows shaved off to the delight of the students.

The Best Damn Country Bar Tour is making its way to Cochrane, promising a night of non-stop music and high-energy performances at the Texas Gate Bar & Grill tonight (Mar 21).

The Alberta-based tour has been packing venues across the province, with country artist Jeff Catto calling it a “big party” featuring some of the best up-and-coming artists.
