Farmers preparing for spring seeding reminded to Keep It Clean
As the snow continues to melt across the prairies, farmers are gearing up for the busy seeding season. According to Ian Epp, agronomy specialist with the Canola Council of Canada, moisture levels across much of the region appear sufficient for crop germination.
"It looks to me like we've had enough moisture throughout winter. Obviously, we always need more during the summer season, but there's enough out there to get us up and going. Some areas are better than others but in general things look pretty good heading into spring.”
Update provided on Bow Valley High expansion
According to the latest update by Rocky View Schools (RVS), the expansion and modernization of the Bow Valley High School is on pace to enter phase 2 early next month, which includes the construction of the new learning commons and courtyard.
The demolition of the existing gym, originally planned for late 2025, will now take place in July.
Incredible weekend for Cochrane basketball teams
All three Cochrane Kodaks youth basketball teams competing in the Alberta Basketball Youth Provincials have returned with medals to cap off their highly successful seasons.
Hot off of winning their respective Calgary Div. 3 titles, the U13 girls and U13 boys teams both struck gold. The U15 girls Div. 3 team came home with bronze.

Cyclist's cross-Canada ride raises awareness for AS

Greystone community assoc. gets off to early start
The Greystone community isn't at full build out, but that hasn't prevented its residents from being proactive in establishing a community association.
The association is now an official nonprofit society and is busy planning events and welcoming more residents to become involved.
Rob Wollin, one of its directors, says an enthusiastic response to a block party in June led to its creation.
"Even before we knew we'd be an association, everyone had a common interest. They all wanted to see the community thrive and to be welcoming and inclusive."

Ian Smith used to spend most of his days behind a desk in the RCMP's Windsor, Ont., detachment, working on investigations and performing administrative duties. As a member of the force's border integrity unit, the constable says he didn't even have to wear his uniform.
But that recently changed.
Smith now dons a uniform and body armour as he drives a marked RCMP vehicle to help patrol roughly 800 kilometres of Ontario's border with the United States, in addition to his usual investigative work.
Carney heading to Europe for first foreign trip since becoming prime minister
Mark Carney departed for his first foreign trip on Sunday, set to visit France and the U.K., with an additional stop in Iqaluit, Nvt., during a whirlwind three-day jaunt.
The aim of the trip is to strengthen ties with France and the U.K. and reaffirm Canada's Arctic sovereignty before returning on Tuesday.
Carney is expected to talk about security and economic and trade ties while in Europe, where he will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Carney will also meet with King Charles while in the U.K.
New Chinese tariffs on Canadian canola products to have 'devastating impact' on farmers
China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) has announced the outcome of its anti-discrimination investigation initiated against Canada in September 2024 as a result of the federal government’s tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, steel and aluminum.
China’s State Council Tariff Commission will impose a 100 per cent tariff rate on Canadian canola oil and canola meal along with several other Canadian agricultural commodities as of March 20, 2025.
