UPDATE 8:27 a.m. - Travel not recommended has been removed on highways directly through Weyburn. Everything directly through Weyburn is showing as snow covered, however, with icy and slippery sections and reduced visibility. Highway 39 from Yellow Grass to Moose Jaw and well as the area that turns into Highway 6 is still showing as travel not recommended.

Local schools honour veterans with Remembrance Day Ceremonies

Schools around Weyburn held Remembrance Day ceremonies this week to honour the sacrifices made by veterans for our freedom. Discover Weyburn attended the ceremonies at Legacy Park Elementary School on Tuesday and Assiniboia Park Elementary School on Wednesday.

Legacy Park began with the entrance of the Colour Guard. The grade two classes then performed a song titled "Kindness" followed by the grade five classes with "Everyday Heroes". Mrs. Abel's grade six class then recited a poem.

Paranormal investigation unveils the supernatural side of Weyburn history ▶️

The Weyburn and Area Heritage Village closed for the season on August 23rd, however they opened their doors once more on September 7th when the City of Weyburn partnered with Canadian Paranormal Expeditions (CPE) to investigate what supernatural secrets hide in the historic buildings.  

According to a release sent by the City of Weyburn, the event was intended to fundraise and spark new appreciation for the Heritage Village. They had recently connected with CPE, who tour the country seeking evidence for the supernatural.

Beavers hit a home run with sports dinner featuring football stars

A packed Weyburn Legion took in a pair of entertaining guest speakers Saturday night as the Weyburn Beavers held their annual Sports Dinner. Former NFL player, and Weyburn native, Brett Jones and Saskatchewan Roughrider running back A.J. Ouellette were the guests at the dinner, which is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the baseball club.  

Chickens, Beehives and Elections: A look at the storied career of our City Clerk

It’s been 17 years since Donette Richter joined the City of Weyburn crew as City Clerk and now she is looking to take a step back and enjoy retirement. 

“Well, I became City Clerk in 2006,” Richter said. “I worked for the city for several years prior to that, but in 2006 is when I was appointed city clerk.” 

Over 17 years, Richter has seen a lot and she noted it was difficult to pick one thing as a highlight. 

Community generosity shines at Blow Away Hunger

For the past two days, members of Golden West Weyburn have been at Great Plains Ford hosting their annual Food-raiser Blow Away Hunger.  

The event kicked off on Wednesday with one goal in mind; fill the back of the Great Plains Ford Blow Away Hunger truck. The Golden West crew asked members of the community to come down and put a food donation into the truck to help support the Salvation Army over the holiday season.
