Time to grab your chalk and hit the sidewalks. Community Chalk Art Day is back for a third year thanks to the City of Humboldt’s Cultural Services Department. It’s a chance to use your creativity to have some fun and make Humboldt a more interesting and positive place.
Wapiti Regional Library begins CO2 monitor lending program
Wapiti Regional Library patrons can now borrow CO2 monitors to measure the air quality of their indoor spaces. Humboldt and area card holders can book and pick their monitors up at the Reid Thompson Library.
Saskatchewan sheds 5,700 jobs from June to July
July has been a rough month on the jobs front in Saskatchewan, according to Statistics Canada. The province lost 5,700 jobs in total, 5,200 of which were full time, from the previous month. Manitoba and Saskatchewan have the dubious distinction of shedding jobs, while employment numbers were up in Alberta, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, notes the Stats Canada website.
RCMP seeking help in locating missing girl
Battlefords RCMP is seeking the public's assistance in locating 15-year-old Madison Yew.
Madison was last seen on Saulteaux First Nation at approximately 7:00 p.m. on August 5.
Police and Madison’s family are concerned for her wellbeing. Madison is described as being 5’4” and weighing approximately 130 lbs. She has dark brown hair and brown eyes. She last wearing a grey/black long sleeve shirt and grey jogging pants.
Madison has connections to Edmonton, Meadow Lake and Saskatoon but her current whereabouts are unknown.
Second World War veteran Leo Saretsky celebrates 100th birthday
On Wednesday, World War II veteran Leo Saretsky celebrated his 100th birthday with friends, family and Humboldt Royal Canadian Legion members.
The Humboldt Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion gifted Leo with a handmade Quilt of Valour for his sacrifice to Canada in the Second World War. A social media post by the Humboldt Branch explained that Leo was a Seaman who was trained as a telegraphist. During the war he was stationed on the HMCS Trentonian when it was torpedoed and sunk in the English Channel.
Carlton Trail College set to celebrate 50 years
Carlton Trail College is gearing up for a series of events in concert with its 50th anniversary of serving individuals, businesses, organizations and communities in east-central Saskatchewan. With learning locations across the region, these events are being planned to celebrate this important milestone.

UPDATE: Arrest made in Nipawin shooting
RCMP have made an arrest and charged an individual in connection with the July 26 shooting in Nipawin.
On August 1, 2023, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert General Investigation Section, with assistance from Nipawin RCMP, arrested an individual after executing a warrant in relation to a March 8, 2023 assault with a weapon investigation.
Wonder of Words returns to Little Manitou Art Gallery
This year’s Wonder of Words, the literary festival hosted by Little Manitou Art Gallery, will have a theatre element as a special pair of presentations take the stage.
Government wraps up Highway 16 passing lanes project
The Province of Saskatchewan announced that the finishing touches have been put on the Highway 16 improvement project. The final set of passing lanes are now open near the eastern Saskatchewan community of Saltcoats, marking the wrap up of the multi-year project.

Such was the case on Sunday, when denizens of the region gathered again to marvel at the collector's edition cars, bikes, trucks, and the multitude of tractors on the Bruno Sports Grounds.
