Hounds corral Broncos in Wednesday night matchup

The Notre Dame Hounds marked a season first win against the Humboldt Broncos last night. Hounds goalie Tucker Inabinet stood tall facing 48 Broncos shots to the Hounds 27 against Hayden Dunford in the 5-2 Hounds win. 

The Broncos skated away with a 2-0 lead after the first thanks to efforts by Alec Saretsky and Sam Marburg, but that ended the scoring for the Green and Gold as Hound's Will Dawson tied it in the second. The Hounds followed with three more goals in the third to wrap it up. 

Update: Car/train collision results in fatality

Update: The collision between a vehicle and a train at a level crossing just east of Elstow on Sunday has claimed one life. a 43-year old woman from Warman was declared deceased on the scene by EMS. Investigation determined the vehicle had been travelling east on Highway 16 at the time of the collision.

 No injuries were reported by CP rail crew members. An autopsy has been ordered on the deceased. Highway 16 was closed from approximately 7:45 on December 4th to 2:30 pm.

The investigation continues.

Team Knapp wins in dramatic fashion at SCT event in Wadena

Team Kelly Knapp defeated Team Micheal Carss in the final of the Scott Comfort RE/MAX Blue Chip Realty SCT event in Wadena. In an excellent game, Substitute Skip Dustin Kidby, made a double run back for the win in a well fought battle.  After an action packed back and forth game, the teams were tied in the 8th end, and Michael Carss made an excellent shot with his last leaving team Knapp with a difficult double run back for the win. 

Jeffery Straker brings warmth and musical magic to "A Very Prairie Christmas"

Jeffery Straker brought his charm, his homespun stories, and his musical brilliance to Humboldt with his “A Very Prairie Christmas” Tour. The tour criss-crosses the province having just wrapped up a show in Wynyard the day before. 

Brian Grest of Arts Humboldt introduced Straker with warm reminisces of Straker as a grade 9 kid banging on the piano in the music room of the school in Punnichy where Grest taught. Years later, it came as no surprise, Grest mused, that Straker had parlayed his talent into a musical career. 

Broncos win a nail-biter in Weyburn

The Humboldt Broncos eked out a win over the Red Wings in Weyburn this past Saturday.

Weyburn took the early lead on goals by Nicholas Kovacs and Elijah Anderson, but Broncos newcomer Mathew Van Blaricom scored late in the first to narrow the gap.

The second period was a back and forth slugfest, with Connor Casparie, Ethan Zielke, and Timothy Kim with a pair all hitting the mark.

RCMP tracking donation box thief

Humboldt/Lanigan RCMP is asking for the public's help in tracking down an individual responsible for a local theft. 

On the morning of Nov 19, 2022 Humboldt RCMP received a report of theft from a donation box on the 2000 block of 8th avenue. Police are asking for help identifying this person. Humboldt RCMP asking for the public’s assistance with information about this incident or if noticed anything suspicious in the area around the noted times above.

City deliberates 2023 Budget at meeting on December 5

City Council will be deliberating the Proposed 2023 Budget on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 9:45 am.

Murder leads to arrest on One Arrow First Nation

Wakaw RCMP and Saskatchewan Major Crimes Unit acted quickly to make an arrest following the report of a sudden death on the One Arrow First Nation west of Wakaw. 

On November 29, 2022 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Wakaw RCMP received a report of a sudden death at a residence on One Arrow First Nation.

Officers immediately responded and located a deceased adult female. She has been identified as 24-year-old Monique Gamble from One Arrow First Nation. Her family has been notified.
