Update: Crossfield boil water advisory still in effect as town awaits test results

The Town of Crossfield says the community’s boil water advisory has been cancelled.

“We are pleased to announce the Boil Water Advisory has been cancelled. Residents and businesses are welcome to use their water as normal,” the town said in a public update.

The town directed residents to Alberta Health Services’ guidance on what to do after an advisory ends. AHS says:

Update: Crossfield issues boil water advisory after service disruption

The Town of Crossfield says a boil water advisory remains in effect, even as water restrictions have been eased back to the year-round Level 1 after repairs to a water main break.

In a Facebook update on Friday, the town said the break has been repaired and the system is back in service. It said Level 2 restrictions have now been lifted, with residents returning to the standard Level 1 rules that limit outside watering to even-numbered addresses on even calendar days and odd-numbered addresses on odd days.

Update: Crossfield imposes Level 3 water restrictions after disruption

The Town of Crossfield says a boil water advisory remains in effect after Thursday’s service disruption, while water restrictions have now been eased from Level 2 to Level 1.

In a Facebook update on Friday, the town said the water main break has been repaired and the system is back in service. It said residents are now under the year-round Level 1 rules, which restrict outside watering to even-numbered addresses on even calendar days and odd-numbered addresses on odd days.

Air quality forces Rocky View schools to move activities indoors

In a note to parents and also posted to their website, Rocky View Schools has directed all schools to move outdoor activities indoors as wildfire smoke pushes air quality into the high-risk range.

The division said schools are following the Government of Canada’s Air Quality Health Index, which reached 8 in Airdrie on Monday and is forecast to rise to 10 or higher.

Smoke from wildfires is causing very poor air quality and reduced visibility for Rocky View County near Airdrie and Crossfield, prompting health officials to issue a warning.

Environment and health agencies say conditions can change quickly, with air quality fluctuating over short distances and varying from hour to hour.

Mid-Sized Towns Mayors Caucus calls for provincial support

Earlier this month, Crossfield mayor Kim Harris, Didsbury mayor Rhonda Hunter met with MLA Scott Cyr to talk about the Mid-sized Towns Mayors Caucus that both communities are a part of.

Harris explained that the caucus represents 84 communities with a population between 1000 and 14,999.

"We want to get reliable infrastructure funding for mid-sized towns from the province to manage moving infrastructure and growth."

She explained that many smaller communities have aging infrastructure.

Rocky View Schools to host info session for trustee candidates

Rocky View Schools (RVS) is inviting community members with a passion for leadership in public education to attend an upcoming information session on September 11 for prospective candidates to the RVS Board of Trustees. 

"Attendees will gain insight into the trustee’s role, learn how the division operates, explore how they can contribute to shaping the future of education in RVS and have an opportunity to ask questions," shared RVS.

School Bus 101: First ride events coming to Airdrie and Olds

Rocky View Schools (RVS) and Chinook’s Edge School Division (CESD) are hosting events to help first-time school bus riders become more familiar with the experience.

RVS, which serves communities like Airdrie, Crossfield, and Cochrane, are hosting their event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 28 at the RVS Education Centre.
