Roughriders looking to halt two-game losing skid in Ottawa

It will be a tough Thursday night matchup for the Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-3) as they head to the nation’s capital to meet the Ottawa Redblacks (5-2).  

Saskatchewan is coming off a 42-31 loss to the Edmonton Elks on Saturday, while the Redblacks will be rested as they enjoyed a bye last week, with their last game on July 26.  

HDHF raising funds with birdhouse online auction

The latest fundraiser for the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation (HDHF) is one for the birds. Birdhouses, that is. 

Right now, the HDHF is holding an online auction for a chance to own a JR’s Designer Birdhouse.  

Executive Director Lorrie Bunko says the HDHF received the birdhouses courtesy of a donation from the Remais of JR’s Designer Birdhouse. She noted that John Remai has decided to retire and has donated the remaining 66 birdhouses to the HDHF.  

Tough start for Team Saskatchewan at 2024 Baseball Canada Cup

It was a tough day for Team Saskatchewan with Muenster's Marek Yeager at the first day of action at the 2024 Baseball Canada Cup in Fort McMurray. 

In their opening game, Saskatchewan was defeated by Quebec 7-2. Yeager was the starting pitcher for Saskatchewan, and he ended up taking the loss. 

He pitched 4.2 innings, giving up five hits and allowing three runs. He recorded eight strikeouts.

Muenster's Marek Yeager named to Team Saskatchewan for 2024 Baseball Canada Cup

Muenster's Marek Yeager has been named to Team Saskatchewan that will be competing in the 2024 Baseball Canada Cup in Fort McMurray. A tournament that features some of the best baseball players in the country.  

Last night the opening ceremonies took place with Wednesday marking the first day of action. Saskatchewan will take on Quebec in their first game at 9:00. That will be followed with a matchup against Ontario at 3:00.  

City of Humboldt receives Housing Accelerator Funding approval

The City of Humboldt has announced an agreement of $2.3 million with the Government of Canada that will encourage the development of residential homes in the city.

Funding is through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) House Accelerator Fund (HAF) which provides funding straight to municipalities to incentivize and support initiatives aimed at increasing housing. 

The funding will help the City of Humboldt development goals which includes housing opportunities for residents and streamlining development permitting processes. 

Team Canada Women's 3x3 Basketball team finishes 4th at Paris Games

Team Canada's Women's 3x3 Basketball team just fell short of winning a medal at the Paris Games, ending up with a fourth-place finish. 

Canada began Monday's action in the semi-final against the top ranked Germany. 

It was a back-and-forth game, with Canada tying the game with 14 seconds remaining but the Germans hit a last second shot that sealed the win and a spot in the finals.

Humboldt's Paige Crozon had four points against Germany.

With the semi-final loss, Canada met the United States in the Bronze medal game. 

15U AAA East Central Dodgers win provincial title

The 15U AAA East Central Dodgers claimed the Tier 2 provincial title this weekend in Regina. 

They began the tournament with a 13-9 win over the Moose Jaw Canucks on Friday

Then on Saturday they were shutout by the Swift Current 57's 11-0. 

But the Dodgers rebounded with a 7-4 win over the Regina Athletics.

On Sunday, the Dodgers beat the Southeast A's 9-3 setting up the gold medal game with a rematch against Swift Current. This time the Dodgers prevailed picking up a 10-6 win in the championship final. 

Riders face quick turnaround following stunner to Edmonton

The Saskatchewan Roughriders had a chance to move into sole possession of the West Division on Saturday but surprised by the Edmonton Elks 

with 42-31 loss. 

Despite scoring on the opening play of the game with a kickoff return from Mario Alford, the Roughriders were unable to maintain the momentum. 

Former Roughriders receiver Tevin Jones in his start with Edmonton came back to haunt his old team with three catches for 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns, 

Royals go winless at Senior AA Provincials

The Senior AA Tier 1 Provincials took place this past weekend in Regina, involving the Marysburg Royals. 

It was a tough weekend for the Royals emerging with no wins. 

They opened the tournament with a 7-5 loss to the host Regina Trappers on Friday,

On Saturday, they opened the day with a 10-7 loss to the Saskatoon Outlaws. 

They lost to the Regina Rockies 12-4 in their second game of the day.

Finishing up the tournament, the Royals lost to the Carlyle Cardinals 11-6.
