As CAA campaign launches, affordability identified as key issue related to province's worst roads
The 14th annual CAA Manitoba Worst Roads campaign is underway, giving Manitobans the chance to highlight the roads most in need of repair across the province.
“Our research shows that 96 per cent of Manitobans are concerned about the state of our roads,” says Ewald Friesen, manager of government relations at CAA Manitoba. “The CAA Worst Roads campaign gives Manitobans a voice in highlighting the roads they believe are in need of repair, which provides a valuable snapshot to decision-makers.”
Annual inflation rate jumps to 2.6% in February with tax holiday end: StatCan
The annual rate of inflation accelerated sharply to 2.6 per cent in February as the federal government’s temporary tax break came to an end mid-month, Statistics Canada said Tuesday.
That marks a sizeable jump from the 1.9 per cent increase seen in January, when Canadians saw GST and HST taken off a variety of household staples, common gifts and restaurant bills for the entire month.
Missing teen safely located: RCMP
Selkirk RCMP say a missing 17-year-old girl has been found safe.
RCMP say the girl had not been seen since March 8. They had originally sent out a missing person alert on the evening of March 10.
In an update issued Tuesday, Mounties expressed concern that she may be at risk of exploitation.
She was last seen on March 8, around 8 p.m. at a home in northwest Winnipeg.
On Tuesday, a short time after their second plea for help, the Selkirk RCMP sent out another release saying the teen had been found safe and returned home.
Singtheword choir bringing book of Habakkuk to life through song ▶️
Singtheword, a choir from Waverly Church in Winnipeg, is performing the book of Habukkuk from the Bible through song form on Friday evening to help support the new album.
"We [Singtheword choir] started with performing Hebrews because we thought these albums were such a great expression of the New Testament letters," says Cadence Penner. "We wanted to put them on as a church."

As per her wishes, a private family service for Effie Senkow will take place with burial at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery.

St. James crash leads to seizure of meth, machete, and stolen rifle part
A 22-year-old man is facing a long list of charges after crashing a stolen vehicle into a light standard in St. James and then fleeing.
The incident happened on Sunday at around 10:15 a.m. Officers responded to Ness Avenue and Ferry Road where they found a red Mitsubishi that had struck a light standard.
The adult driver and female passenger took off before police arrived, leaving the area in a ride-sharing vehicle.
Officers spotted the vehicle at Ness Avenue and Olive Street and were able to stop it. Both occupants were arrested and taken into custody.
Transcona residents head to polls today to elect new MLA
It's election day for residents of Transcona.
A byelection was called after the seat was left open following the death of former education minister Nello Altomare, who died after a battle with cancer on Jan. 14.
The four official candidates for Transcona are former Olympian Susan Auch running as an independent, Brad Boudreau running for the Liberals, Shannon Corbett running for the NDP and former city councillor Shawn Nason running as a PC.
Highway 1 reopens following serious crash
UPDATE: Highway 1 has reopened following a serious crash Monday evening.

A section of Highway 1 remains closed Tuesday morning following a serious crash.
Shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday, emergency crews closed down the westbound lanes of Highway 1 from Brandon to Highway 21.
A weather system rolled through southwest Manitoba late Monday evening, leading to treacherous driving conditions.
Motorists driving in the area reported slippery road conditions and encouraged people to stay home.
Fire breaks out in three-storey apartment, no injuries reported
No one was injured following an apartment fire Monday evening.
The blaze broke out around 6:45 p.m. in a three-storey apartment building in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue.
Smoke was filling the hallways of the building when crews arrived. Firefighters quickly located the fire in one of the suites and knocked it down within half an hour.
Residents were able to evacuate safely and no injuries were reported.
The city's Emergency Social Services team responded to the scene to help find temporary housing for displaced residents.
