Saskatchewan reports public losses for first quarter of 2025-26
The Government of Saskatchewan has released its public loss reports for the first quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal year, covering April 1 to June 30, 2025.
Saskatchewan health organizations reported one incident involving a Saskatchewan Health Authority employee in Saskatoon. The employee misused a parking pass, resulting in $577 in unpaid fees between August 2024 and February 2025. The employee was given a 10-day suspension and is reimbursing the amount owed. The Health Authority also enhanced training for parking staff and is implementing a new management system.
Sask Selects international tournaments announced
The Sask Selects Football program concluded its road trip of ID camps last month, and now the attention turns to the start of the 2025 - 2026 season. The program will have three international tournaments to look forward to this season.
The first one will be held from November 26 to 29 in Las Vegas, NV, for the 24th International Pigskin Tournament. Then the Selects will host numerous teams from around the world for their Battle on the Prairies Tournament, January 8 to 11.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announces support measures for softwood lumber industry
The federal government is setting up a safety net of loans, product-development grants and market diversification plans for Canada’s softwood lumber industry in an effort to shield it from the worst of American duties and fees.
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the plan Tuesday, promising $700 million in loan guarantees to address what he called "immediate pressures" and $500 million for long-term supports to help companies diversify export markets and develop their products.
Carney also promised that future projects will "prioritize" Canadian lumber.

James (Jim) Russell Black
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of James “Jim” Russell Black on Thursday, July 31st, 2025, at the age of 82 years. Born in Moose Jaw, SK on October 8th, 1942, Jim lived a life on his terms right till the end.
Jim worked many caretaker jobs over the years including the Post Office, Castle Wines, and the Catholic School Division. Jim met and married Elizabeth Klepsch and together they had one child, Penny.

Saskatchewan RCMP say an 82-year-old missing man from Canora was in Moose Jaw Monday morning.
Roland "Rollie" Wilcox was last seen on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on Fifth Avenue West in Canora. Police say the investigation determined that he was in Moose Jaw.
Canora RCMP are following up on tips that Wilcox was spotted west of Good Spirit Lake Monday evening, although his current whereabouts are unknown.
Downpour of rain expected for the Moose Jaw area
The Moose Jaw area could see significant rainfall this afternoon through Wednesday morning.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is tracking a slow-moving upper low that could bring a widespread 10 to 20 millimetres of rain.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if someone came out of this with, say, three inches of rain, or 75 millimetres locally. But it does look like a widespread 10 to 20 millimetres — perhaps even more — so it looks like there’s still a fair bit of rain to come,” said meteorologist Crawford Luke.
