SHA announces virtual physician program to get Redvers residents stable ER access
The Saskatchewan Health Authority is looking to keep the Redvers Health Centre more open for residents as they've implemented a virtual physician program.
The SHA calls the program a temporary measure to help sustain and support access to emergency health services while they try to stabilize health human resources.
Whenever local physicians are not available at the Redvers Health Centre and local recruitment efforts are ongoing to fill provider vacancies, the virtual physician program will be used to address patients in the ER.
Election Day brings new leaders and close races to southeast communities
Voters across southeast Saskatchewan went to the polls on Nov. 13 to elect mayors and councillors, with communities including Bienfait, Carlyle, and Lampman seeing tight races.
In Bienfait, Ken Bonokoski won the mayor's seat, and six councillors were elected from a field of seven candidates. David Johnson received 107 votes, Dennis Gonas 117, Paul Caroll 98, Melissa Rensby 97, Daniyale Woolsey 88, and Bill Mann 123. Diedra Maurer narrowly missed a seat with 83 votes.
Protein Industries Canada partnering for improvement of plant-based cheese
Earlier this year, Protein Industries Canada announced a project and partnership with agriculture companies to help improve plant-based products including cheese. Partnering with Daiya Foods, Ingredion, Ingredion Plant Based Specialties (IPBPS) and Lovingly Made Flour Mills; the goal is to use Canadian grown crops such as peas and faba beans to help improve the taste, texture, and overall quality of plant-based cheese.
Shelly Veroba re-elected for third term as Estevan Councillor
Estevan residents have elected a new city council, re-electing Shelley Veroba for a third term. Veroba, who received the highest vote count among councillors, expressed gratitude for the strong voter turnout and said she is eager to continue bringing residents' voices to council chambers.

"I live in Gainesborough, so I was almost to Carievale which is the next town west. Then all of a sudden, there's a great big green ball of light appeared just over the horizon. It wasn't, like, high up in the sky and it looked like it was falling towards the ground. As it was falling, the green ball diminished a little bit, and it had, like, a white streak behind it."
Tom Mauss looking to build trust and work hard as Estevan city councillor
With Estevan's civic election unofficial results in, a few new faces are ready to help Estevan through its city council.
That includes Tom Mauss, who was voted into office with an unofficial vote count of 1233 votes, the fifth highest of all the nominees.
Mauss says he's thrilled with the result.

George Elgin Goudy, late of Stoughton, Sask., passed away at New Hope Pioneer Lodge in Stoughton on November 10, 2024 at the age of 87.
A celebration of George's life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stoughton Apostolic Church, Stoughton, Sask. A luncheon will follow in the church hall, after which a family interment will take place at the Stoughton Town Cemetery.
Those wishing to pay tribute to George via a donation in his memory may do so to a charity of choice.

A Celebration of Sylvia’s Life will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Hall Funeral Services, Estevan, SK with Shirley Petterson officiating. A Private interment will take place at the Estevan City Cemetery Columbarium. Please join the family for lunch at the Royal Canadian Legion, Estevan branch following the service.
Buy a Smile Cookie, support the Salvation Army’s local Food Bank
Tim Hortons’ holiday Smile Cookie Campaign returns next week, with 50 per cent of the proceeds benefiting Estevan's Salvation Army Food Bank, and 50 per cent going towards Tim's Camps.
“So two good causes and everybody loves cookies. We’re hoping people will come out and support that. The campaign runs from the 18th to the 24th,” said Community Ministries Director Ronza Reynard.
While buying cookies is key to the fundraiser, Reynard is also looking for volunteers to help decorate.

After a long night of counting votes from three polling places and advanced polling, Estevan residents chose Anthony Sernick to be their next mayor.
"Quite simply, to friends and family, and also all the supporters...this is our victory - not my victory," he expressed.
