The Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) convention is taking place this coming Monday, November 25, with an election for its new president scheduled for the 27th.
Election Details

Millerettes coach says girls hockey is growing in the southeast
The Millerettes are a local dual-roster team made up of girls from Steinbach and the surrounding area.
All of the girls play on a regular co-ed team, and have the option to also play on a girls team.
Ryan Canada, one of the Millerettes coaches, says there are five dual-roster teams in the southeast, plus the girls-only teams that play in a league.
“So the dual-roster teams aren't in a league per se, but we do play against all the other dual-roster teams in our area.”
The heart of Airdrie: Snow angels are lending a hand to seniors in need
Volunteer Airdrie Society's Snow Angel Program is off to a strong start this winter season, with eight seniors and 11 volunteers already signed up.
While this marks a slight decrease from last year’s numbers, when 17 seniors and about 20 volunteers participated, there’s been a noticeable uptick in registrations following recent snowfalls. As Airdrie grows, so does the demand for this vital service.
Pipe bursts at Humane Society causing substantial damage
The Weyburn Humane Society is facing another major challenge after a burst pipe caused significant damage to its facility. The incident, which happened just days after the new drywall was installed, forced the shelter to close while repairs were being made temporarily.
“This wall was just finished on Sunday, and now it’s pretty much ruined,” said Colleen Morrice, shelter manager at the Weyburn Humane Society.
Local tire shops see big surge in business following the first snow of the year
The dramatic shift in weather this week has local tire shops booked up, swapping vehicles over to winter tires.
Chris Dyck from Kal Tire in Steinbach says they are as busy as they can possibly be right now. He notes generally speaking, it is a good idea to get winter tires on when the temperature is consistently below 7 degrees.

Vintage & Vines Christmas Market:
A day of shopping and holiday cheer is in store for the Vintage & Vines Christmas Market. According to organizers, every admission helps the Wheatland & Area Hospice Society. The event starts on Saturday (Nov. 23) at 10 a.m. at the Strathmore Civic Centre.

Ponoka Waste Transfer Station receives award of excellence
The Town of Ponoka’s Waste Transfer Station has been honoured with the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) 2024 Collection Site Award of Excellence.
Town staff received the award at an Alberta CARE Recycling Conference in Bonnyville.
Sandra Lund, Town of Ponoka Chief Administrative Officer said the award is well-deserved.
Do you have Saturday plans Airdrie? Brace for a double-digit snow dump
Airdrie residents who have weekend travel plans may want to monitor the weather closely. The area is under a snowfall warning, and the largest dump of snow is expected Saturday.
While snow is expected to begin falling across Alberta today, with five to 10 centimetres likely by Saturday morning, by tomorrow, snowfall will intensify, potentially accumulating 10 to 15 centimetres.
Have your say on possible Rocky View County pet bylaw changes
Rocky View County (RVC) is looking into possible changes to its Animal Control Bylaw.
According to RVC, the primary focus of this bylaw is to ensure animals are kept under control and do not engage in nuisance behaviour towards neighbouring properties.
Lorraine Wesley, manager of enforcement services, talked about the changes they are thinking about implementing.
"Administration is looking at including a leashing provision and looking at cat licensing."

Red Deer couple wins $100,000
Charlene Nielson and Lance Aloisio are $100,000 richer, after checking their Western 649 ticket and Extra from the Oct. 2 draw.
Nielson said she took the ticket to the cashier, stunned, and asked her to check it again.
“When I realized it was real, I wanted to tell someone,” she said. “Then I realized I’d left my cell phone at home, so I couldn’t call anyone to tell them.”
