Hammers up in Airdrie: Women join Habitat build

Dozens of women picked up hammers in Airdrie on Tuesday as Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta launched its annual Women Build, part of the push to finish 11 affordable townhomes in Bayview.

The three-day event brings together women from across the region — from corporate leaders to tradespeople — to learn construction skills, raise money and help families secure housing. Habitat said in a news release that sponsors have already raised $97,000 for affordable homeownership across Southern Alberta.

Jason Montgomery looks for third term in Strathmore Town Council

Jason Montgomery is running for a third term in the upcoming Strathmore Municipal Election.

Montgomery was first elected eight years ago and has served two consecutive terms as a councillor.

"I heard from a number of people who said they would like to see me run again," said Montgomery on why he decided to run. "I want to see good people on council and a broad range of views represented, and I think I represent a perspective that needs to be heard in the town."

City announces new opening date for King Street following delays

The City of Weyburn has provided an update on the construction progress at King Street and Highway 35. The full structural rebuild is part of the province’s Urban Highway Connector Program (UHCP) and has fully closed the road between First Avenue Northwest and Fifth Avenue North.

The project, initially slated for completion before the beginning of the school year, was delayed due to unexpected structural concerns and weather delays.

Record breaking heat may hit Cochrane this week

Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt announced the funding on Monday, saying the goal is to ensure students across the province have access to safe, modern, and supportive learning environments.

Parent arrested after causing disturbance at local school

Steinbach RCMP arrested a parent at a local school last week for causing a disturbance.

On Wednesday, Blumenort School sent a letter to parents informing them of an incident that occurred earlier in the day. The letter stated that the school was placed in a lockdown in response to a parent who entered the building and became verbally aggressive towards staff. The letter stressed that students were not involved at any point and were kept safe in their classrooms. It said RCMP attended promptly, and the situation was resolved without further escalation.
