Between October 28 and November 4, 2024, the Kindersley RCMP responded to 36 calls for service, including a variety of incidents that highlight both safety concerns and seasonal reminders for residents.
Up-and-coming bronc rider from Kerrobert: Kaden Cholin chasing rodeo dreams
Kaden Cholin of Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, might only be 17, but he's making waves in the world of bronc riding. With just a year of experience under his belt, Cholin has already proven his skills in multiple rodeo circuits, including the KCRA, Saskatchewan High School Rodeo Association and open rodeos across Alberta. But this talented young rider’s journey began long before his first rodeo last year—he’s been around horses since he could walk.
SHA releases advisory on Typhoid Exposure from Dominos
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has issued a public alert for possible typhoid fever exposure linked to a Domino’s Pizza outlet in Martensville, located at 717 Centennial Dr. S. The SHA stated that individuals who consumed food from this location between October 11 and 19 may be at risk, although the chance of contracting typhoid is considered low.
Very dry and warm October for Swift Current
An abnormally warm and dry October for Swift Current is now in the books.
The city received only 33 per cent of its October average precipitation while also being 3.2 C above the 139-year monthly average.
Danielle Desjardins, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said the lack of moisture hampered not only Swift Current but other areas.
City Council turns down proposal for harm reduction funding
Steinbach City Council voted on Tuesday to reject a proposal presented by Steinbach Community Outreach (SCO) seeking municipal support to access funding for harm reduction initiatives. The decision was made during a regular council meeting, where City Councillor Michael Zwaagstra made the motion to not proceed with the request, which was seconded by Councillor Susan Penner. The motion passed with council's approval.
Alberta government making changes to electoral boundaries
The provincial government is planning to amend the Electoral Boundaries Commission Act.
The plans, which would include increasing the number of electoral divisions in the province, were announced by the government on Tuesday (Nov. 5).
If the amendments are passed there would be two more electoral divisions added to Alberta. However, the new division's locations have not been announced.
Fire Chiefs for the Day learn, question, and tour Swift Current
Five kids were able to become Fire Chief for a Day with the Swift Current Fire Department.
The kids get to spend a day, touring the Fire Department and learning from the firefighters. They get to inspect the firetrucks and equipment, learn how everything works, and get to peak behind the curtain at how they operate day to day.
Glenbow and Cochrane Ranche pathway projects receive an update
As work continues on two major pathways in Cochrane, the Town has released an update on the progress in Glenbow and Cochrane Ranche.
"Pathway paving has now been completed as scheduled through both Glenbow and the Cochrane Ranche," reads a post on Facebook by the Town of Cochrane.
RCMP searching for woman known to frequent Langdon
Alberta RCMP is asking residents to be on the lookout for Soleil Eden Wenas.
According to police, Wenas is wanted for several crimes and is known to frequent Langdon, Calgary, Edmonton, Foothills County, Rocky View County, Carstairs, Mountain View County, Seebe, Exshaw, Kananaskis, and Water Valley.
RCMP said Wenas was last spotted in Calgary.
"Warrants must not be acted upon without first confirming the validity of the record with the originating agency," wrote police.
Santa Parade headlines this year's Moonlight Madness
The seasonal shopping sensation, Moonlight Madness, is just around the corner, and Humboldt’s businesses along with the Humboldt Downtown Business Improvement District are gearing up. Moonlight Madness takes place on Thursday, November 21.
