U11 Strathmore Reds prepare to host provincial baseball tournament

The U11 Strathmore Reds baseball team is bringing provincials to town later this summer.

The club announced that the U11 Reds would be hosting the Tier 2 Baseball Alberta Provincial Championships at the Hillview diamond from Aug. 1 to Aug. 3.

"The event will bring in hundreds of people to Strathmore," said Jillian Weselosky, a board member with the Reds. "We've never hosted a U11 provincials, so this is a first for us."

The Reds put in an application earlier in the season, with Weselosky adding that she was surprised they were selected.

Berries split Okotoks showdown, ready for WCBL All-Star Game

Saturday's 2025 WCBL All-Star Game in Okotoks will cap the Saskatoon Berries current Alberta road trip, as the team heads to Lethbridge on Thursday for the first of two games, after splitting a pair against the Okotoks Dawgs Tuesday and Wednesday in a showdown between first-place teams.

The league, and East Division leading Berries traveled to Seaman Stadium in Okotoks for two highly anticipated games against the East Division leading Dawgs, and the games didn't disappoint in the slightest.

West Central talent shines with Team Sask Elite in Edmonton

Representing their province against teams from all over Canada and the USA, Team Sask Elite enjoyed a stretch of elite hockey during last week's 'War for the Roses' female hockey tournament in Edmonton.

At least a couple of local players were on the roster below, including Macklin's Bentley Baier, and Kaylee Bacon from Kindersley.

Local baseball fans went home happy last night after watching the Moose Jaw Miller Express trounce the Medicine Hat Mavericks 11-2. Austin Gurney went 2 for 5 at the plate, driving in 3 runs. Westin Walls was the winning pitcher, scattering 6 hits over 7 innings and striking out 10. The same two teams play again tonight at Ross Wells Park.

Jets release schedule for upcoming season

The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club, in partnership with the National Hockey League, has announced its full 82-game schedule for the upcoming 2025-26 regular season.

The Jets begin the season at home, welcoming the Dallas Stars to Canada Life Centre on Thursday, Oct. 9, in a rematch of their second-round series from the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. They will then face the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, Oct. 11, before hitting the road to play the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Monday, Oct. 13.

U19 Killarney Lakers coach McIntyre reflects on season, provincial bronze and more

A strong season for the U19 Killarney Lakers was capped off by claiming provincial bronze, something that coach Keith McIntyre says it was a great way to wrap up the year.

"It feels great," McIntyre says proudly. "The girls worked really, really hard all year. They maybe didn't get gold or silver, but it's always nice to come home with a medal."

U13 AAA Eastman Wildcats proudly hosting provincials, looking to cap off special season

The U13 AAA provincials start today in Friedensfeld, and the coach of the U13 Eastman Wildcats, Jason Plett, says the group is poised to do something special.

Hosting the provincials is a real point of pride for Plett and the team. "It means a lot," he says proudly. "It's lots of fun for the girls to play in front of family and friends, when it's close to home, you get a few more of those coming out, especially on summer holidays. We start today, we're expecting nice weather and we're hoping to have lots of fans out."
