Ice Hawks, Klippers named to SJFHL All-Star Team
The Saskatchewan Junior Female Hockey League released a pair of All-Star teams for the 2024-25 season last week. A trio of Outlook Ice Hawks made the cut, alongside one Western Prairie Junior Klipper.
It's no surprise that league leading scorer Haley Braun was on All Star Team 1. Braun had 65 points (42 goals, 23 assists) to lead the league this season as a rookie.

Austin Shanks scored six goals and Frank Scigliano made 30 saves as the Saskatchewan Rush defeated the Colorado Mammoth 17-12 Saturday night in Saskatoon.
The win was one of the final pieces put in place for the Rush to clinch a home playoff berth. Rush broadcaster Cody Janzen says having home-floor advantage is crucial.
Local minor hockey prospect taking talents across the ocean
Portager Jack Klippenstein is making another trip across the Atlantic Ocean to compete in an elite tournament in Italy. Klippenstein has been working on his game with the U13 Central Plains Capitals, which has a team in action for the first time in about 15 years, he says.
Klippenstein's journey to Italy began with his impressive performance in Calgary.
Flyers clip pesky Nighthawks, win series 4-2
In a series few from Winkler or Niverville will soon forget, the Flyers managed to pull off a 3-2 win in game six to defeat the Nighthawks 4-2 in the quarter-final series.
The CRRC in Niverville was buzzing early as the home side came out strong, earning a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.
Dawson Zeller continued his strong playoffs scoring his second from Aiden Corbett, putting his team up a goal.
Both teams went back and forth through the rest of the frame but the Zeller goal was the only one that hit the scoreboard through the opening 20 minutes.
Foam Lake Flyers win LLHL Championship in overtime thriller over the Drake Canucks
The Foam Lake Flyers finished off their season on a high note as they claimed the Long Lake Hockey Championship by defeating the Drake Canucks 7-6 in overtime.
Foam Lake won the best of five series 3-2.
It was a fast start to the game, with the two teams combining for seven goals. The Flyers led 4-3 after 20 minutes.
In the second period, Drake closed the gap, by tying the game at 5-5.
Okotoks goalie playing in the AHL is going to the playoffs
Gage Alexander, a hockey goalie from Okotoks and part of the Detroit Red Wings organization, has been assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Alexander grew up playing hockey in Okotoks and was recently reassigned from the Reading Royals of the ECHL to the Griffins.
The Red Wings sent him to Reading on January 17th, and he was reassigned to Grand Rapids on March 11.
The 22-year-old is a 6'6", 205-pound, left-catching netminder who has 46 pro games between the AHL and ECHL, where he's registered a 15-20-4 record, 3.57 GAA and .888 SV%.
Heartbreaking loss ejects Pistons from playoffs
It was an incredibly tight series where a bounce or two a different way could have made the difference but in the end, the Steinbach Pistons lost game six to the Portage Terriers 3-2 and the quarter-finals series 4-2.
Coming off a complete and total team effort in game five, the Pistons carried it over into the early stages of game six. All four lines were buzzing around, forcing turnovers and keeping the Terriers from getting anything going. All six defenders were on their toes, moving pucks quickly and playing terrific, fast defense.
Canada picks up big win over Sweden
Team Canada picked up a huge 8-6 win in the morning draw against Sweden at the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship at Temple Gardens Centre.
It was an important game for both teams, as they came into this draw tied in the standings at 3-1.
"Beating Sweden, we were both 3-1, and keeping ourselves at one loss, that’s a huge win for us," added skip Brad Jacobs.
With last rock in the first end, Jacobs was left with an open takeout to score one. However, his shot rolled a little too far, and it was a steal of one for Sweden.
Terriers knock off Pistons in Game 6 to advance to semi-finals

The Portage Terriers finished off their first round series with the Steinbach Pistons on Monday night picking up a close 3-2 win on home ice.
After starting slow in game five, the Terriers came out strong in the deciding game six. Dawson Madden opened the scoring for Portage, tipping in a point shot midway through the first period. The goal seemed to wake up the Pistons who got on the board two minutes later from Brayden Barnett.
Roughriders extend Ferland through 2027
The Saskatchewan Roughriders solidifed a key piece of their trenches on Monday, inking offensive lineman Logan Ferland to a two-year contract extension to keep the Saskatchewan born player in green and white through the 2027 season.
Ferland hasn't missed a game the last two seasons, playing each position of the offensive line as a versatile and consistent piece for the Roughriders. Multiple accolades during the 2024 season helped him earn his first all-star selection, and the West Division nominee for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman.
