Oil Caps outmatch Terriers
The Portage Terriers annual rookie game saw 9 goals scored, with only one in the Terriers' favour. The Dogs iced a lineup consistening of all rookies, including two players who are 15, against the Oil Capitals who dressed four 20-year-olds.
The first frame saw 22 shots directed on goal, but only four from the Terriers. Virden scored a pair of goals that Portage was unable to respond to in the frame, making it 2-0 Virden after the first period.

Colts earn volleyball gold in Prince Albert
A gold medal to start the season for the Swift Current Comp Colts senior volleyball team.
They won the 16 team St. Mary Invitational Tournament in Prince Albert.
During pool play, the Colts went 3-0 with wins over Nipawin, Waldheim, and N.B. John Paul II.
The Colts then beat Meflfort in three games in the first round of the playoffs and topped Meadow Lake in the quarterfinals.
It took three games to beat Prince Albert Carleton in the semifinals on Sunday.
Swift Current then beat Lloydminster Comp 25-12 and 25-15 to win the gold.

Locals' face-off at Sask First U16 Top 40
Two head-to-head matchups and a singular exhibition game highlighted the Hockey Saskatchewan Sask First female U16 Top 40 showcase tournament put on this past weekend in Swift Current.
Six local players were in attendance out of the 40 players making up two teams: Team White rostering Kindersley's Iralyn Calkins, and two Rosetown natives Harper Kampen, and Jalaa Moore Jagow, while Team Green included Kerrobert's Berkley Wuttunee, Kindersley's Hayden Hilbig, and Rosetown's Charleigh Johnston.

The high school football season fired up this past weekend with most teams having a few weeks of practice under their belt. That's not the case for many junior programs, though they likely started practice as soon as they could when the final bell of the first day rang.
OM Yoga Festival welcomes yoga enthusiasts for fifth annual festival
From acro yoga flips to aerial swings, meditation circles, and live music, Woodlawn Park became a weekend playground for yoga enthusiasts from across Canada at the fifth annual OM Yoga Festival.
“After COVID, many events were cancelled or postponed, so being one of the few yoga festivals happening in Canada right now really drew people in,” said Kim Mayuk, founder of OM Yoga Studio. “Many attendees are already planning to return next year.”
RDP Athletic teams kick off the new season in winning form
It was a triumphant return in the first week back for RDP Athletics.
This past week, both the Kings and Queens Cross Country Running teams placed first in Edmonton.
Both the Kings (23 points) and Queens (40 points) ranked first at Running Room Grand Prix #1 in Edmonton. The RDP Kings and Queens had several outstanding individual efforts.
Kenya’s Japhet Kipkosgei ranked first among ACAC male runners. The second-year RDP University Arts student completed the 8 km course in 27:52.
Airdrie goalie Aaron Dell retires after 13-year pro career
Airdrie goaltender Aaron Dell has retired after 13 seasons of professional hockey. Dell, 36, announced his decision Sept. 4 in a post to Instagram.
“After 13 seasons of professional hockey the time has come for me to hang up the skates and leave my playing days behind me,” Dell wrote. “I wanted to thank all of the people that believed in me and supported me throughout my career. Lots of ups and downs. An undrafted 6 foot tall goalie that was given a chance by the San Jose Sharks organization.
Sports Round-Up: Tuesday, September 9
It's game day for the Moose Jaw Warriors as the Western Hockey League pre-season continues.
The Warriors will be in Regina to play the Pats tonight - 7 o'clock at the Brandt Centre. The Warriors are 2 and 0 while the Pats are 1 and 2.
The Warriors will play at the Temple Gardens Centre this Friday night against the Saskatoon Blades.
The Warriors want fans to know that Saturday home games have been moved up an hour - games will start at 6 o'clock.
The Warriors' regular season home opener is a week from this Saturday against the Brandon Wheat Kings.
