Canada says it will join effort to get aid to Gaza through humanitarian sea corridor
Canada will join an international effort to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza by sea, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly announced on Sunday, as hundreds of thousands of Palestinians continue to go hungry.
Joly issued a statement saying Canada will join the international coalition that is working together to increase the flow of aid to Gaza through a humanitarian sea corridor originating from Cyprus. Further details have not yet been released.

New principal at École James S. McCormick School
Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is pleased to announce that Melissa Rogers has been appointed as principal at École James S. McCormick School (ÉJSM), beginning August 2024.
Rogers has been an educator since 2001, as she began her teaching career in Lethbridge as a physical education specialist and from there moved to teaching physical education in Abbotsford, BC before returning to central Alberta in 2012. Most recently she has served as assistant principal at ÉJSM.
Red Deer RCMP lay charges after year-long weapons trafficking investigation
In January of 2023, the Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) initiated an investigation into firearms trafficking.
Red Deer GIS, with the assistance of General Duty Officers, the Emergency Response Team and other specialized units within the RCMP, executed a search warrant at a private residence in Red Deer.
As a result of the search, police seized numerous items, which included:
• Firearms & firearm components
• equipment for the manufacturing of firearms
Bentley Town Council Issues Notice of Intent to Annex Lands
The Council of the Town of Bentley gave approval to a Notice of Intent to Annex Land and directed administration to formally notify Lacombe County at the Feb. 27 council meeting.
The notice is also being sent to the Land and Property Rights Tribunal and the Minister of Municipal Affairs.
Copies of the notice are being provided to the MLA, provincial ministries, the school district, and utility companies.
Daylight saving time confuses me:' Canadians prepare to adjust clocks
The general manager of a movie theatre in Saskatchewan says it’ll be an extra early Oscars watch party this weekend as the award show airs after most Canadians wind their clocks ahead an hour.
The 96th Academy Awards show is to be broadcast Sunday, but this year it’s taking place an hour earlier at 7 p.m. ET. It also airs after daylight time, which sees most Canadians change their clocks.
Yukon and most of Saskatchewan keep their clocks the same year-round.
Central Alberta officer charged with assault
The Central Alberta Crime Reduction Unit was assigned to investigate a group of known offenders who were believed to be committing thefts in the Drayton Valley area during last year’s wildfire evacuations.
Officers recovered stolen vehicles and items including a Ford F250 Pickup, a Chevy Silverado Pickup, an ATV, and a truck canopy.
RCMP arrested three repeat offenders who were charged for various offences.
RDCRS receives construction funding for new Blackfalds school
Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools (RDCRS) has received full construction funding from the provincial government for a new Kindergarten to Grade 5 school in Blackfalds.
