RCMP hunting for pair of suspects with ties to Central Alberta

Alberta RCMP are continuing to search for a pair of individuals wanted for various crimes.

James Blohm and Dorian Hunter both have connections to Central Alberta.

Blohm's last known location is unknown. His areas of activity are listed as Red Deer, Regina, Lloydminster, Camrose, Lacombe County, Wainwright, Vermillion, and Olds.

Hunter was last seen in Maskwacis. He is known to visit Maskwacis and Wetaskiwin.

Primary care access expanding with new nurse practitioner program

Following the launch of the Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Program in April, 33 nurse practitioners are already practising independently in rural communities in Alberta.  

The program allows nurse practitioners to practise comprehensive patient care autonomously, either by operating their own practices or working independently within existing primary care settings, a Government of Alberta news release said.  

Emergency Alert test today

Today, November 20th, Alberta will be participating in a test of the National Public Alerting System. At 1:55 p.m., an Alberta Emergency Alert test will be issued across multiple channels including television, radio, wireless devices, websites, social media, the Alberta Emergency Alert mobile app and directly to compatible cellphones across the province.

Three Hills RCMP charge BC woman involved in meat purchasing scam

Three Hills RCMP have charged a B.C. woman with fraud over $5,000 after investigating a meat purchasing scam that dates back to December of 2023.

Police say the victim arranged a large meat order with a company named DBL Meats. The company was reported to be based in Kelowna, British Columbia, and was said to provide fresh farm products to customers in Canada.

Popularity of disc golf soaring in Penhold

The Town of Penhold worked with local groups over the past year in developing a disc golf course throughout the community. 

This fall, disc golf apparatuses were installed in two separate park areas: one with three practice baskets; one area has a 9-hole layout, with a 3rd park to host an additional nine holes to be installed in 2025 making an 18-hole disc golf course in key areas within Penhold. 

Feedback from residents playing the course has been positive. 

 

Government spending in limbo as Tories, Liberals continue game of chicken in House

Treasury Board President Anita Anand is warning that if the House of Commons doesn't get back to regular business, some government departments might be in financial trouble.

On Monday, Anand tabled a supplementary estimates request for $21.6 billion to fund programs including housing, dental care and the national school food program.

One of the biggest-ticket items is $970.8 million for compensation adjustments for civil servants as a result of collective bargaining agreements.
