Reminder: Hungry bears headed for hibernation

With a strong end to the summer on the minds for many before fall returns, a certain population in Saskatchewan is already looking forward to the winter.

"Summer is a great time for people to be outdoors, enjoying the weather and all that nature has to offer in our beautiful province." read a Sask. Ministry of Environment release on Monday, "However, it's also an important time for black bears to maintain and build their fat stores in preparation for winter."

Roughriders riding into bye week undefeated

The Saskatchewan Roughriders aren't exactly strangers to a good start judging by the past few years.

The green-and-white began the 2022 season at 4-1, and then in 2023 put together a 3-1 mark to kick things off on the right note — but the vibe is certainly different in Riderville heading into their first bye week of 2024 undefeated at 3-0.

2024 SJHL Draft coming up June 11

The next wave of Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League prospects only have about two weeks left before draft day. Shifting focus to the off-season, on Monday the league announced their 2024 draft day, set to take place on June 11 at 3:00 PM.

WestCentralOnline caught up with commissioner Kyle McIntyre after his trip to the Centennial Cup in Oakville, Ontario. When asked about the upcoming draft, McIntyre shared they have another full production on the way for SJHL fans to enjoy.

Saskatchewan's highways tend to turn into a skating rink this time of year, whether ice-cold conditions are causing freeze-ups leading to icy patches, or it's just pavement frost coming out to play.

The concept of pavement frost makes sense, but what does it actually mean? The Saskatchewan Highway Hotline shared the following message to their Facebook back on January 23.
