Beavers shine at WCBL All-Star Game, contribute to East Division effort

It was a strong showing for the Weyburn Beavers at the WCBL All-Star game in Okotoks on Saturday.

The Beavers had five representatives on the East Division squad. Niko Kekatos, Ian Heck, Ryan Muizelaar, Halen Otte, and Owen McConnell were all dressed in the game, with four of the players making an appearance.

Beavers' bats go quiet in loss to Swift Current, despite 10 walks

The Weyburn Beavers were looking to make it two wins in a row over the Swift Current 57s Thursday night when the teams took to the field at Tom Laing Park Thursday night. Swift Current’s Jose Ayala had different ideas, however. He would finish the game a triple short of the cycle and drove in four runs to help power the 57s to a 9-5 victory, avenging Weyburn’s 8-5 win Tuesday night.

Beavers' offense awakens, delivers knockout punch in late innings

The Weyburn Beavers found themselves down by four runs when they came up to bat in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday night against the Swift Current 57s. Some timely hits, though, would turn the tide. Niko Kekatos and Halen Otte would both go yard in the 7th inning, with Kekatos’ being a two-run no-doubter to left field and Otte’s a towering blast to right-centre, as the Beavers would rally to overcome the deficit and go on to an 8-5 victory.

Weyburn Beavers fall short in weekend homestand

The Weyburn Beavers were at home at Tom Laing Park for a pair of games on the weekend, as the Regina Red Sox came to town on Friday, and then the Saskatoon Berries paid a visit on Sunday.

In the game Friday, the Red Sox took an early lead and held on, keeping the Beavers off the basepaths as best they could, before blowing the game open with two runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth to pick up an 8-1 win.

Heck of a performance: Beavers snap skid with big win at home

The Weyburn Beavers snapped their 17-game losing skid spectacularly Tuesday night. Ian Heck went 7 2/3 innings on the mound, striking out ten, and allowing just one run, as Niko Kekatos and Robert Gurney both hit two-run home runs in the sixth inning as the Beavers beat the visiting Regina Red Sox 5-1.

Kekatos, Webster, Mould provide offensive spark for Beavers despite loss

After coming away from their road trip to Alberta without a win, the Weyburn Beavers were looking for a game at home to bounce back, and get into the win column. They entertained the Moose Jaw Miller Express at Tom Laing Park and gave Ian Heck the start on the mound. Moose Jaw, however, took advantage of some miscues in the first two innings to open up a big lead and held on for a 10-4 victory.

Heck throws complete game, but Beavers fall to Giants

The Weyburn Beavers played the second leg of their Alberta road swing Wednesday night, after taking the nearly five-hour trip from Sherwood Park, Alberta, where they played the Edmonton Prospects, to Fort McMurray, where they played the Giants.

The Beavers would be able to get the runners on base, collecting 11 hits in the game, but could only bring two of those runners home, leaving nine on base, as the Giants edged past Weyburn 3-2.

Heck homers, but Beavers' offense falls short in Edmonton

The Beavers would build up a lead through the first five innings, going up 4-1, before the Prospects exploded for six runs in the sixth inning to take the lead, and held on for a 7-4 victory.
