Tim Hortons raises funds and smiles during Holiday Cookie Campaign

What do you call a metric cookie? A gram cracker.

From November 13th to November 19th, Portage la Prairie and area residents came together to buy Tim Hortons Holiday cookies in support of two good causes.

With 4,972 cookies devoured at $1.50, customers stepped up to help bring $7,458.78 toward the Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and the Tim Hortons Foundation Camps.

MFNPS investigating reported assault on Sandy Bay First Nation

Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) officers were requested to attend to a residence on Sandy Bay First Nation last Wednesday for a report of an assaulted man.

Just after 11:00 p.m. on December 6, officers attended and located an adult man who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm as well as other injuries. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Police say that it appears the victim may have received these injuries at a different location in Sandy Bay First Nation. MFNPS officers continue to investigate this incident. 

RCMP arrest 22-year-old in Portage for careless parenting incident

Portage la Prairie RCMP are sharing news of an arrest made on a 22-year-old man for ditching his child following a highly intoxicated public moment.

At 9:34 PM on December 1st, police say they received a call of an intoxicated man pushing a stroller in the middle of the street. RCMP attended and spoke to the 22-year-old. The man in question was deemed to be too intoxicated to care for the child.

Arrest of Springfield man leads to multiple arrests and millions of dollars of seizures from drug rings

A man was arrested in the RM of Springfield involved in what police call "high-level drug trafficking rings". RCMP Federal, Serious and Organized Crime investigators uncovered his illicit drug operations and money-laundering crimes.

MacGregor Fire Department responds to early morning rollover Saturday

Last weekend brought with it an early start for the MacGregor Fire Department.

At 6:40 A.M. this past Saturday, firefighters were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on #1 Hwy. Fire Chief Chris Leckie says the accident was a single-vehicle rollover into a ditch off Highway 1.

"There were no injuries, and it's under investigation by the RCMP. We had approximately 12 firefighters attend that one," explains the Fire Chief.

Portage RCMP arrest and charge Dakota Plains man with assault 

Portage la Prairie RCMP took 42 calls for service on November 24th, one of which was of domestic assault in Dakota Plains. 

At 6:03 p.m., officers took the call regarding the assault and went down to the scene. Police arrived and confirmed the domestic assault allegations.  

As a result, Portage RCMP arrested a 39-year-old man from Dakota Plains.

The suspect was arrested and charged with assault and was released the following day with a pending court date. 

Multiple arrests, weapons and drug seizures in Dauphin over 11 days

On November 17 at approximately 4:35 p.m., patrolling RCMP conducted a traffic stop on 9th Avenue South East in Dauphin.

They stopped a  driver and passenger who were involved in an earlier theft and were arrested.

Police searched the vehicle and seized weapons, 90 grams of cocaine, a small quantity of methamphetamine, prescription drugs, ammunition, and cash.
