‘It’s not snitching’: April highlights Reporting Impaired Drivers program

For the month of April, SGI has shifted their focus over to the importance of reporting impaired driving. 

While reporting an individual to the police is often regarded with a negative connotation, one key factor to keep in mind is that you could actually be saving that person's life, explained Tyler McMurchy, Manager of Media Relations for SGI.

Human Trafficking remains a prevalent issue in Canada, threatening the lives of individuals across the country. 

According to a report from Statistics Canada, between 2011 and 2021, over 3,500 incidents of human trafficking were reported by police. 

Myron Hleck, Provincial Human Trafficking coordinator with the RCMP, stated that females are typically the most at risk. 

“Younger females, girls anywhere from the age of 12 to 13, all the way up to the early 20’s,” he elaborated. 

It's back! Nominate Saskatchewan's worst roads with CAA campaign

As the snow begins to melt and the pavement starts to thaw, unsafe and dangerous roads become more prevalent across the province. 

CAA’s Worst Roads Campaign aims to highlight these treacherous road conditions, allowing motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, motorcyclists, runners, and transit riders to nominate what they believe is the worst road. 

Prepare for Picnic in the Park

Swift Current residents will once again have the opportunity to indulge in carnival games, live music, and snacks when the Innovation Credit Union’s Picnic in the Park returns to the city this summer. 

The event, which has become a staple of the community, will occupy Riverside Park once again after a three-year hiatus.

14-year-old Assiniboia girl located safely

14-year-old Blair April Halkett has been located safely after having gone missing from the Palmer area on Saturday afternoon.

Halkett had last been seen at approximately 1:30 p.m. on April 1 near Palmer, Saskatchewan.

Her direction of travel at the time of her disappearance was unknown.

It was believed she may have travelled to Regina, though it could not be confirmed.

Triumphant return for Southwest Quilters Guild

Over 300 people filed into the First United Church on Friday to ponder the intricate designs and craftsmanship of the Southwest Quilters Guild for the Southwest Quilters Guild Quilt Show. 

The event, which typically takes place every two years, was finally able to return to Swift Current for the first time since 2018, something members of the guild have been anticipating for some time explained President of the Southwest Quilters Guild, Marcie Erick. 

Another stellar weekend for Swift Current gymnasts

Swift Current Gelico Gymnastics ventured to Regina over the weekend to compete at the Queen City Competition. 

A number of gymnasts pulled out high scores, earning them a place on the podium. 

In the All Around, Level One gymnasts, Maeva Dryland, and Ava Gerrie competed their way to gold, while Level Two gymnasts, Kira Busse, and Chloe Hewins also snagged the top position on the podium.
