Grain Terminal break-in has RCMP seeking information

The Viterra Grain Terminal in the RM of Gull Lake was the target of a break-and-enter over the weekend.

On July 29, Swift Current Rural RCMP received a report of a male driving a red Ford F150 with a black hood who went to the location, stole gas and cut a lock off of a building.

Hot cars and cool pets

As the scorching summer temperatures continue to rise, the danger of leaving pets in hot vehicles remains a serious concern.  

Veterinarian Sylvia Wiebe, owner of Sylvia Wiebe Veterinary Services, elaborated on the serious consequences that may occur. 

“The worst thing is they’re going to die because of overheating,” she stated. “They just can't cool themselves down anymore, so, they will eventually die.” 

Sizzling heatwave engulfs southwest

The Southwest is bracing for another heatwave as scorching temperatures are set to hit the area starting today.  

With a formidable ridge of high pressure making its way from the west, the temperature is expected to surge into the low 30s and remain there for the foreseeable future, advised Steven Berg, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada. 

Warrant issued in relation to truck stolen in Swift Current

A male has been charged in relation to one of the three trucks that were recently stolen in the Southwest.

In an update to yesterday's press release from the Swift Current RCMP informing the public of the thefts, Police have identified and charged 29-year-old Nicholas Langille from Medicine Hat, with the July 23 theft.

Eastend pool dives into upgrades thanks to Innovation grant

The Eastend Community Swimming Pool has received a much-needed boost in the form of a $5,000 grant from the Innovation Credit Union's Legacy Community Development Grant. 

The funding comes as a welcome relief to the volunteer-run, nonprofit facility, which has been aiming to make repairs and improvements, explained Allison Zeigler, a member of the Eastend Community Swimming Pool Board.

The Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre has announced the appointment of Deanna Baje as its new Executive Director, welcoming her vast experience and dedication to the organization.

Kevin Simpson skates into role with Swift Current Broncos 

The Swift Current Broncos have announced the appointment of Kevin Simpson as their new Executive Vice President of Business Operations, a role formerly held by Nathan McDonald. 

The news comes as a significant development for the Western Hockey League team, with Simpson bringing a wealth of experience in hockey management and a track record of success. 

Simpson explained that he was recommended for the position by McDonald after extensive conversation.

The recent extreme heat wave has caused a surge in energy demand as people are relying heavily on air conditioning to keep their homes and businesses cool.
